Estimated Release Date? Rate Topic   - - - - -

Hi. I am setting up my client (a second in a couple of weeks, actually!) with the current version of CS Cart!

I am wondering if you have an estimated release date for v.2. Although I am very happy with v 1.3.5, there are a lot of usability improvements in v.2 that I love, and also I love the new skins, and I would love to be able to give the client an estimate of when it would be available.

Also, if I knew it was coming out in the next year, I could provide the upgrade as part of my package at no extra cost to myself.

Thanks,
Chris

There are no set dates as far as i know, but from past releases i would estimate 4-6 months for a stable enough version that i'd be happy to use. That said it does depend on how good a job the developers do with bugs.

As for the upgrade, you do realise that only the database will be able to be upgraded. The new v2.0 cart has been completely rewritten so any design changes made to 1.3.5 would have to be redone in v2.0.

The upside is that due to the new architecture any design changes should be able to be carried over to future upgrades, well that's the theory.

Do you mean cs-cart 2.0 version will achieve the goal what Magento is boasting about? A platform for growth? Is that possible to achieve that goal without the help of Zend Framework?

Any idea or discussion is welcome!

Thanks.

Sno knows more about it than me, http://forum.cs-cart...33&postcount=13.

I've had a quick play with the code (converting Sno's XML Sitemap to v2.0) and it seems quite clever. The addon gives a menu item in the "addons section" with options and the sitemap generation script all from just adding two files. There was no need to touch any of the carts core files, or even run an sql script. OK the addon is nothing special but i was suprised at how automated the new core works, and i'm no programmer.

I think we will see lots of new addons coming.

When you say 4-6 months, do you mean from now (i.e., making a stable version available somewhere between June and September '09), or from the original release of the Beta?

Baballuci is just guessing and the only ones that really have any idea are the developers and they aren't telling. Snorocket and ETInteractive might have a better idea, but I'll bet they aren't telling until the developers are ready to tell.

Just hang in there. It seems to me that most the bugs are worked out so I am sure the release will be out soon enough.

Hi Sno. Good to hear that.

BTW, what environment do you use to develop cs-cart 2.0 addons? Could you share with us? Many thanks.

I hope cs-cart team takes more time in testing version 2.0. Release it in the next year. In my own opinion, many improvements should be done before the final release in order to beat other shopping carts.

It would be nice to have some visibility for the release date range. I have 3 websites to develop in the pipeline and need to know how long it will take, if it's more than a month from now, I might just go with the current version, if not, I can wait more... It's helpful to have an idea...

Hello,

I received today a message from Support area about your doubt.

"The stable version of CS-Cart 2.0 is going to be released within a month. The exact date of the release has not been set up yet."

So, in your case You can wait a bit more to get the stable version from the new version.

I am waiting it, too.

so, let's do what we can do: WAIT.

I would not hang my hat on that reply, this is the reply I got on Feb 24.

Thank you for contacting us.
The stable version of CS-Cart 2.0 is going to be released within a couple of weeks. The exact date of the release has not been set up yet.
Thank you.

Unless there is something that you really need that is in the new version, I would use the current version and get your store up and running.
Current version: 1.3.5-sp1

Hello,

In my case I will wait because the NEXT GENERATION of upgrades WILL be to the new version, so.. I think I will not lose them.
Otherwise, I will can use the new ARCHITECTURE that is not the same from the past one (1.3.5, for example). Only database will migrate, and only for the 1.3.5 version users. Not my case. My one is from 2006.
