BUYER BEWARE! Siteground Hosting

It seems Siteground is attempting to hold my domain hostage. I tried pointing my DNS name servers to my new hosting company and all I got with Siteground was errors. After over 24 hours of support emails, I finally got an answer that I would have to register for private DNS at $99.00 per year. What a crock of $#!%.

Not only have they screwed up my site over and over again when I upgraded to a VPS - Virtual Private server, now they are refusing to let me change my DNS. I now have a dedicated server with another hosting company and I cannot wait to get away from this company.

Does anyone know how I can get around their $99.00 fee or who I can complain to?

Thanks,

Bryan

you can transfer your domain to a different registrar, for like $15… which will also give your domain name an extra “year of life”

and then at the new registrar, set the dns servers to be whatever you want them to be

I have taken your advise and have transferred the domain name. I am ready to go live with my CS-Cart Site on a dedicated server, but now must wait for the domain to transfer. It is hard for me to believe a hosting company would charge you $99.00 to point the DNS elsewhere.

I do believe if Siteground was a US based company, someone within the corporate HQ would be doing jail time of their deceptive tactics and advertising. But I am going to be sure to spread to different boards what they are up to so that maybe another company like myself will be spared the grief.

Off to the Joomla boards…Thanks

Unimaginable! It takes seconds to change the DNS point. As a domain registrar I always offer to register a domain for any new hosting customers. I charge $12. If the customer ever wants to change to a different host I don’t charge anything to change the DNS point. Never will either.
