Which credit card processor do you suggest?

I already have Paypal, but I think it doesn’t work so well sometimes… it will force you to create a new Paypal account or sign in to pay… read this thread

So, I am thinking if I want to use another payment processor to accept credit card payments. Do you have any suggestion which one to check out? How about 2checkout.com?

Thanks.

I use Authorize.net and have been real happy so far. I don’t know how their fees stack up against everyone else, but it was real simple to set up and get working. I don’t know where you are, but I am in California and I used Humboldt Merchant Services to set up my account.

Brandon

I had a quick look at Authorize.net website, I think their fees are very high. I am actually considering 2Checkout, but am wondering if there are better ones, especially with lower fees.

Here is a post by Page about the PayPal option.
They will get a side nag box saying log in to your paypal account but there is another one that says pay using a credit card.

You can word things so that they are not hearing or seeing PAYPAL if that is an issues. But here in the UK it is rapidly going main stream.

For example you could talk about your secure payments processor.
2Checkout was the worst most unprofessional service I have ever used alanpro. You would be better off staying with PayPal until ready for a more professional solution. I also highly recommend authorize.net. They have provided the best service to us out of all we have tried over the years and it is quite easy to setup.

I also recommend Authorize.net , I have been with them for a short time but no problems so far. Authorize.net have a lot of resellers that would give you much better pricing than going with them Direct, Here what I pay: No setup Fee, 2.19% Visa, MC, .25 Per. Trans. $10.00 Min., $8.95 Statement Fee and $5.00 Gateway Fee (authorizenet)

You can sign up for Authorize.net via my Merchant Reseller link below and enjoy the following:

NO Application Fees

NO Annual Fees

NO Address Verification (AVS) Fees

NO Leasing

NO Termination Penalties

NO Batch Header Fees

2.10% VISA/MasterCard Qualified Discount Rate

All you need to qualify for this special discounted rate is just to show that you provide some form of Webhosting Services.

Authorize.net is a good service, but they also come with some pretty hefty fees. We’re an agent for them, but I have other programs that are lower in fees and have great service.

PM me if you want more info.

Hi you write the first 250 are free and on your homepage your write “$0.05 first 250 trans free monthly, then $0.05 each”

whats now true?

We use PayPal without any problems.

Authorize.net is a good choice too.

I apologize Triplex, my mistake: I mixed up Authorization and Gateway fee together;

Authorization fee: To Authorize each credit card for charging = $0.25 per transaction

Gateway fee (i.e. Authorize.net): first 250 transactions are free per month and $0.05 Gateway fee per transaction thereafter.

Paypal does offer “Website Payments Pro” which allow you to accept credit cards directly on your website. They also include virtual terminal for you to take offline orders. I have been using “Website Payments Pro” for nearly 3 years. You can take Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover. The only thing I don’t like “Website Payments Pro” is that Paypal keeps increasing the monthly fee. When I started 3 years ago, the monthly fee was only $10, then it increased to $20, now it is $30!!!

Sure Paypal is good and would have been my first choice apart from the monthly payment increases. Further concern I had with paypal is that even with Paypal Pro, they don’t process credit cards issued by Banks from some countries which Paypal has tagged ‘high risk’ credit card fraud countries. Hence Authorize.net which does not discriminate in CC billing address as long as it is a MasterCard or VISA is the next most viable and reasonable choice to reach customers from Paypal ‘blacklisted’ countries. In addition, they are now more cost effective than Paypal Pro because of the monthly payments if you get a very good rate such as from:

I thought I would post a note about how merchant services work.

The first thing I think merchants need to understand is the differences between swiped and keyed transactions. Swiped transactions are face to face between you and the customer, with the card being swiped in a terminal on your counter top. All credit card companies prefer swiped transactions because they are the safest. Bad guys don’t like it when a stolen card is discovered and someone has their description and possibly a picture. All credit cards have information encoded into the stripe that flags the transaction as being swiped.

Manual entry of credit card information into a terminal, computer, or website isn’t as secure as a swiped sale and incur a higher fee charged to the merchant, (you), for the transaction.

In general, credit card processors have three classifications for transactions. Qualified or Qual, Mid Qualified or Mid Qual, and Non Qualified or Non Qual. Obviously, the Qual rate is the lowest, with Mid Qual and Non Qual incurring additional fees respectively. This is about the simplest explanation of an extremely complex process, but it’s the most common.

Additionally, there are two types of merchant accounts, Retail and MOTO, which stands for Mail Order/Telephone Order. Retail is pretty self explanatory, it’s the face to face swiped transaction. MOTO transactions are always manually keyed. This includes internet sales such as those using CS-Cart. And…manually entered card info at a retail location is treated as a Mid Qual, and sometimes a Non Qual transaction.

To make this even more complicated, different credit card processors can define Qual, Mid Qual, and Non Qual transactions differently. For example, Global Payments has a three tier classification for retail establishments. Swiped are treated as Qual, keyed as Mid Qual, and paper slip as Non Qual.

But First Data has a Qual, Mid, and Non category for Retail and MOTO.

Generally speaking, companies like mine will take the time to explain the tier structure we offer, but even if your agent didn’t, it doesn’t mean they are being deceptive. Most of the time we’re all pretty competitive. You just need to be aware of the type of classification your business falls under, retail or MOTO. So when someone tells you they’ll give you a 1.70% rate for qualified transactions, and you get your statement and find out every one of your transactions were charged a higher rate, it’s probably due to your internet sales being treated as Mid Qual transactions. You need to be sure your sales agent clearly understands the type of transaction you will be making in order to provide an accurate quotation.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me directly. I’ll be happy to help.

Note, my website is down for a refurb, but email still works fine.

In reference to my earlier post about rates, I’ve come up with a plan specifically for online merchants. Please note, online rates are classified differently than face to face swiped transactions.

This is an e-commerce plan through FirstData using an Authorize.net gateway.

• 3.31% + 20¢ Visa/MasterCard Non Qualified Rate

• $20 Month Statement and Gateway Fee.

• 5¢ Per Transaction AVS Fee
