Buyers Buying A Gift: How Do They Put The Recipient?

I'm curious how other people are handling this. When buyers checkout in CS-Cart it doesn't have a simple option for them to send the item to someone else such as a gift.

Even worse, I noticed if the buyer changes the name and address on the recipient for delivery at checkout it changes the name and address of the customer in their profile which seems crazy. Buyers have reported to me that their name and address is wrong in their buyer profile simply because they changed the name and address for where they wanted the purchase to be delivered.

How does everyone handle this? What have you done to let buyers ship the product to someone else?

I am afraid, you can solve it only with the multiple profile feature (Settings -> General -> Allow users to create multiple profiles for one account)

This is not exactly what you need, but can be used as a workaround

Are you saying for a customer to have a product shipped to someone else as a gift they have to create a second user profile?

That seems like a poor customer experience. I hope it's something CS-Cart has on their radar to upgrade since buying gifts to send online is a common occurrence.

Additional user profile is not required. But you can use multiple addresses for one account

Shipping (all aspects) has always been a nightmare in cs-cart. That they take a shipping address in checkout and apply it to the user's profile is simply crazy. The only info in the profile should be contact info and billing info (one could argue for a chain of billing methods too). There should be a chain of shipping addresses too, but only if the customer requests to save them. I.e. a one-time gift shouldn't be saved, but if you have a business with multiple locations, then you should be able to select from those saved locations.

Yeah. That's what we are finding. We have a lot of buyers purchasing gifts to be sent to someone else and there's no way to do it in CS-Cart. The buyer has to literally change their own Name and Address to have a product sent as a gift.

So, it can't be Jim Smith at 10 Main St. wants to send a gift to Mary Jones at 55 Pike Rd. Rather if you are Jim Smith you have to change your name and address to Mary Jones at 55 Pike Rd. to have something sent to her.

It's wild that hasn't been a bigger priority.
