Process To Convert Products With Options To Products With Variants

I need assistance with converting Products with Options (size, color, side) to Products with Variations. I am unable to find any clear, step by step instructions on how to do this. Also, I would like to find information on best practices when doing this conversion. I have 4.10 installed of CS Cart Ultimate. I am trying to get a clean link to Amazon but I am not sure best way to convert. I am using Simtech Amazon link for customer's store. Lastly, I would like to insure that when a customer goes to website it shows Single Product with "variations" (OPTIONS) To select.

Please take a look

https://docs.cs-cart.com/latest/user_guide/manage_products/products/convert_combinations_to_variations.html

seriously each product has to be done one by one ?

And note the red background warning at the top of the page:

The described functionality was removed in version 4.10.1. Products are no longer divided into simple or configurable, and variations are now based on features rather than options.

I want to ask something too.

Isn’t cs cart convert automatically the options and option combinationa or forbidden combinations of the products to product variations during the upgrade to 4.10.1 from 4.9.3?

I think I saw somewhere that you’ll be asked to convert them. Is there something that we must do before upgrade or we continue upgrading our store?

I believe it only converted option combinations that were setup at the time of the upgrade. I don't believe there are any tools to convert products with options to variations other than to move those options into features and then set the variations for each product manually. Would be a good (but challenging) addon to develop.

I think cs cart team must say something for this. I don’t think that we just upgrade to 4.10.1 with the cost of thousand products messed up.

All my products existed before the upgrade to 4.10. The products were not converted when the upgrade occurred. It does appear that the products have to be done manually. I have about 157 products with 13 colors, plus 13 sizes, etc, etc. This will be an interesting journey. I will be an expert in product conversion after this. I have converted a few products already. I am still trying to get the best process down. The process is a bit confusing. Also, understanding the effect of group features vs. features, etc. is something that needs to be understood well and the information and explanations are very poor. I think Cs Cart needs to get a technical writer, who also understands the software in depth. This person needs to spend some quality time REALLY explaining things. The same weakness of explanation exists in many parts of their manuals. For example, has anyone been able to successfully set up Ebay sync or Quickbooks order exports. Again, the explanations for these things are very poor and in most cases not helpful at all. The features are also very "buggy". Error messages are thrown without a clear explanation of what the errors mean. Nonetheless, I shall trudge forward. thanks for every one's responses.

I'd suggest you export 2 current products with options and save the export.

Then make the manual changes as it relates to features/varriations and then export them again saving to a different file.

Then compare the exports and see how to adjust your other products that will use similar features/variations.

Should then be a cut/paste to export existing products, adjust the various columns as needed and then import.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I have been working on this project now for days. I have been putting together a process sheet on the best order of operation. I will post it after I have run the methodology on a large number of products to hone it down.

After the upgrade to 4.11.4, we'll be reminding store owners if they have any option combinations in their stores. There will be a link to covert them to variations in bulk.

This conversion will be required before upgrading to version 4.12.1, and we'll make sure that people won't miss it.

Thank you for the information. It is good to know that there will be another opportunity to convert the products. However, I do have another question that your statement raises. (1) What does it mean when you say "There will be a link to covert them to variations in bulk"?

(2) What is the effect or result of "converting them to variations"?

(3) What happens to the Options that are already assigned to the product? Are they removed during this process or do they remain as they were?

Note that the issue here is moving a product with options and no option combinations to variations. Will you be handling that case?

Hate to say I told you so, but.... :-)

Perfect!!!!

Its good to know some thinks and this is what i wanted for now.

I stopped upgrading my site in 4.9.3 sp1 because i was afraid of the procedure of converting combinations to variations.

I don't have enough time for problems right now. I will start the upgrading in next months and i hope the whole process will come to end with no problems.

Thanks!

Yep, agree! Excited to hear more about the comment "After the upgrade to 4.11.4, we'll be reminding store owners if they have any option combinations in their stores. It didn't work on mine and I tried 3 times. Says they can't be converted and won't let me proceed so i can use the supposedly easier features in 4.12.1 to add them back in.

UPDATE: I had to enable Option Combinations, then go into each listed bad product and delete the combinations. Now it worked.

Hi All-

I'm upgrading a 4.2.4 store and when I get to 4.11.5 -> 4.12.1 I get a message telling me to disable the old Option Combinations addon, but I do NOT get any sort of link to bulk convert everything (as @ikoshkin stated). Can anyone tell me how to do the bulk conversion?

I figured out what happened. When I went from 4.11.3 -> 4.11.4 it showed a popup but didn't have anything written out (it looked like a language variable that hadn't been setup) so I installed the Product Variations addon and redid the upgrade and then that box was readable and I was able to link off to the converter.
