We have released version 4.10.1 RC (Release Candidate). It will be useful to:
  • add-on and theme developers—they can test their products in advance to prepare for 4.10.1;
  • the merchants who are interested to see how the new version will work, and what they’ll have to do during the upgrade.
---------------------

The full list of changes is very long, so we left it in the changelog and in the post-upgrade notifications. We also have an article about technical changes for developers. Below you’ll find only the major changes that are definitely worth looking into:

Product variations are out of beta. Variations are now based on features instead of options. This change makes variations more useful, but requires the conversion of the old variations and option combinations into “variations 2.0”. Version 4.10.1 RC lets you see in advance how this conversion will work.

New “Lite Checkout” introduced. The old step-by-step checkout is now a separate add-on. We won’t change checkout page without your consent. If you upgrade from an earlier version, disable the Step-by-Step Checkout add-on, and you’ll get the new checkout configured for you. The new checkout page can be configured via block manager. To do it, go to Design → Layouts and switch to the Checkout tab.

The Store locator add-on has been expanded greatly, and it is now called Stores and pickup points. It allows you to create a shipping method that uses your store locations as selectable pickup points for customers to choose from.

Instead of keeping the map settings in different add-ons, we now have one add-on called Maps and geolocation. It handles what map provider your store uses. Google Maps and Yandex.Maps are available.

---------------------

The best way to try 4.10.1 RC is to upgrade from the previous version:

1. Make sure that your store runs on 4.9.3 SP1.

2. Create a dev copy of your store. Make sure to close the storefront. It is a requirement for a dev copy, while you are still using your own key.

Don’t upgrade your live store to 4.10.1 RC1—there won’t be an upgrade from any RC to the final 4.10.1 release.

3. In your test copy, go to Settings → Licensing mode and change the key to the one that matches your product:

CS-Cart: CS-BETA-277W-86C6-4NZS-ZXB7
Multi-Vendor: MV-PL-BETA-3NZ1-RP6D-6897-9297

For Russian versions, please refer to the announcement at the Russian forum.

These keys will only have one upgrade: from 4.9.3 SP1 to 4.10.1 RC1 (and any subsequent RCs of 4.10.1). Once the testing is over, we will disable these keys. When you enter and save them, you’ll no longer need to keep the storefront closed. But it’s best to open in after step 4.

4. Install the upgrade. After the upgrade you’ll see notifications about the changes. They’ll tell you what to do and check next.

5. (optional for Multi-Vendor users and developers) Try the upcoming Multi-Vendor Ultimate. To do it, change the key on your dev copy to MV-ULT-BETA-0G3H-1CA2-Y5XI-5J5F after you upgrade to 4.10.1 RC1.

If you can’t upgrade a test copy for any reason, you’ll still be able to try 4.10.1 RC as a new installation. Just download CS-Cart 4.10.1 RC or Multi-Vendor 4.10.1 RC and use the corresponding keys provided above.

---------------------

Feel free to discuss 4.10.1 RC, possible issues, and especially the actions that are required after the upgrade, in this topic.

P.S. We have also released RC2, RC3, RC4, and RC5.

One more thing, I couldn't figure out this setting in the addons setting:

Allow variations within one catalog item to have own images

If I check this option, then still I cannot see color picker (thumbnails) to switch between variations. Am I doing something wrong?

Even once the upgrades are available again, you'll most likely need to use license key MV-PL-BETA-3NZ1-RP6D-6897-9297 to upgrade to Multi-Vendor 4.10.1 RC. After you upgrade, you'll have to change the key to MV-ULT-BETA-0G3H-1CA2-Y5XI-5J5F to get the functionality of Multi-Vendor Ultimate. That's a limitation of the RC versions: we don't have upgrades for Multi-Vendor Ultimate yet.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge there is no information about the price or the release time of Multi-Vendor Ultimate. The best way to contact our sales team is through this form https://www.cs-cart....nd-message.html or the built-in chat at our website. If you do that, I'm sure they'll be happy to assist.

There isn't, and there probably won't be. It's a one-time thing, after all, and the interface is pretty self-explanatory.

After the upgrade, if you have option combinations or variations 1.0, you'll be prompted to run the conversion tool (it is also available by a direct link). That tool is a separate page that tries to match the options with existing features and shows whether the match was found or not. For all options the match for which isn't found, a corresponding feature will be created automatically.

This hasn't been implemented yet, but it's a logical thing to do, and there's a separate task for it (although there're still some details to work out). I'll ask Ilya if it can be assigned to one of the upcoming sprints.

We still haven't made the upgrades available. Once we do, I'll post it. So there's no need to upload upgrade package manually (it also won't work for CS-Cart upgrades, only for separate add-ons).

Well, in that case product variations 2.0 are useless for me. Even though I've been corresponding with you about it for almost 2 months. You didn't cover the product model scenario and I'm really disappointed.

Another problem is that you cannot change the feature type e.g. if I want to have 2 separate color features:

1) Color feature with purpose Group variations in one catalog item for certain categories

2) Color feature with purpose Group catalog items as variations for certain categories

How will the conversion tool behave in this scenario?

The fact that we haven't implemented in in RC1 doesn't say that we won't implement it in RC2 or 4.10.1. It is still planned for the final release of 4.10.1. It will be implemented as different variants for Feature style of a feature. Currently it only has Drop-down list (that behaves differently for different purposes). The plan is to have Drop-down list, Drop-down list + images, and Labels (the term isn't final, but it'll be akin to Walmart's size selection). They will behave the same way regardless of a feature's purpose.

Another problem is that you cannot change the feature type e.g. if I want to have 2 separate color features:

1) Color feature with purpose Group variations in one catalog item for certain categories

2) Color feature with purpose Group catalog items as variations for certain categories

It will try mimic the state of your store as close as possible: emulate variations 1.0 with variations 2.0. It means that all features that served as a basis for variations will have "Group variations in one catalog item" (we'll rename it to "Variations as a single product" or something like that). You'll still be able to change the "Purpose" for the necessary features afterwards and recreate variation groups, if necessary. I think it should be much easier with export/import and variation group code.

P.S. We also considered the case when people specified different feature values for their variations. The add-on will have a setting that'll allow child variations to have their own features. So the data will be preserved during the conversion of variations.

The upgrades and installation archives for 4.10.1 RC1 are available again.

Subsequent RCs may occur, as we introduce additional changes.

It will be hard to troubleshoot the issue remotely. I can only provide a basic checklist here:

1. Is your live store currently at version 4.9.3 SP1?

2. Have you made a test copy of your store?

3. Have you entered one of the license keys from the first post in this topic for your test copy?
