CS-Cart Wiki

Hello all,

I have created a wiki for the CS-Cart community. The site is pre-paid for five years in advance so we wont have to be worried about it going down.

Please come on over and start creating pages.

The site is ourcs-cart.com.

I have more plans other than just the wiki. I want to create a whole community site for cs-cart users.

If you have any ideas or are interested in becoming an administrator or moderator let me know.

To goto the main Wiki Page visit:

The CS-Cart Wiki Project

For a list of things that need to be done to the actual WIKI site visit:

Contibute

To learn how to make changes to the WIKI visit:

Wiki Help

I have updated all of the Help documents.

On the left hand “Site” bar there is a “help” link… just click that and follow the directions. This will teach you how to work the wiki and how to create content onto the sit.

Nice one.

It will take a time to get going but hopefully will get there.

Can I suggest some more sections - nothing like getting those into place along with titles to help content appear. It seems less scary. Maybe I could have done this but I started with a flying visit.

Back Up and Restore

Export and Import

Practice and Learn - so that I can go and create a mess somewhere while I get the handle on how the wiki thingy works.

Hopefully cs-cart will pay you what you have spent and take it over and bring it within this forum.

Yeah can you create a practice and learn section.

I tried to create a mini article but it has not appeared nor can I find any other content on there.

I have created the Export and Import as well as Back Up and Restore category’s.

What do you mean a practice and learn section? Like a sandbox test wiki site?

I don’t if that is the right term but the idea is a section where anybody can write anything such as

This is a test topic done by Page

Oh and here is the text within it.

Next I will see if I can edit it.

So that they can get the hang of using the wiki. It is something that I have never done before so I just want a mess about area that perhaps gets cleaned out every now and then.

I am setting up a forum and did some test with a couple of people and realised that having a sub forum where they could type stuff like I have done above encourages new users to get going.

It is easy forget that not everybody is used to these things and they do not want to mess things up or look a fool!

this is going to be the perfect platform to post the Whiny Diapers 1.0 Addon…

Yep thats a sandbox. I have created three sandboxes for your pleasure. Do whatever you like with them… when you are done just click delete at the top and it will clear it.

You can find them on the “editing help” navigation bar or in the “Wiki Help” page.

Whiny Diapers is located in:

“third party → Store Front”

If anybody would like certain extensions added to the wiki let me know.

Here are a list of possiable extensions:

[url]http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_Matrix[/url]

[url]http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Wikiwyg[/url]

or some equivalent.

I think it will encourage contributions.

To me it is bizarre that there is not one built in.

I do not want to install the wysiwyg editor into the wiki for a couple of reasons:

  1. It is not a stable extension and still needs a lot of fixing.
  2. There are good alternatives out there for people who do a lot of posting to wikis and forums. Some good ones are:

    wikED

    Text Formating Toolbar

    I use these two.

BBComposer Best for forums like cs-carts and not wikis.

And others that build into your browser.

  3. Most people will be (once we have a lot of content) using the wiki for the tutorials not creating content to the wiki.

What I am getting at is that it is not worth the risk to install a non stable extension that codes into the wiki core. This can cause problems with upgrading it to a later version.

As soon as one is released that doesn’t I will be all over it

Until then I suggest you install Wiked into your wiki user account.

You can install Wiked into your user account on the wiki instead of installing it in firefox (or if you dont have firefox this would be the way to go).

    Here are the instructions: [url]http://wiki.ourcs-cart.com/index.php/Wiked_tutorial[/url]

I have tested this myself and it works great. I will create a tutorial in the wiki help.

More content has been added to the wiki.

There are 69 articles in place now and another hundred or so will be added shortly… I’m getting there lol.

I think I will be changing the wiki tomorrow… you wont notice a difference in the structure but you will in the looks.

Hopefully I can get native bbcode support in place so people dont have to write articles in html/wiki coding.

I am doing this to help in preparation of the ourcs-cart.com site release (not just the wiki… wiki.ourcs-cart.com).

Anyway thought I would update everybody on the progress.

Thank you to everybody who has submitted articles to the wiki.

Keep up the good work - appreciated and impressed.

I for one give you thanks - maybe the only one?

Rushed off my feet at the moment but when I have time I shall contribute to your starting work.

First of all, nice job on the Wiki! It’s nice to have something much more organized then just always searching through forum posts for answers.

Now what is the Whiny Diapers thing sno talks about? I just thought he was making fun of people whining about problems on cs-cart. Please enlighten me.

Yes as far as I know it is an inside joke about all the whiny complainers that comment about mods… I believe this all came from Dynamic Tabs thread in the forums… but don’t take it from me ask sno

I added it to the wiki as a joke. If he wants to remove it he can but I thought he would think it was funny.

I am sure sno is about sick of the politics of making mods and would just like to develop them instead of dealing with people complaining and demanding things rather than going about it the right way.

Anyway I think he should really create a module called whiny diapers that does something like working with customer complaints or something.

Sno… you should put something in the whiny diapers article on the wiki

Anyway hope that clears it up a little bit for you… still a bit foggy to me. Maybe sno will explain it.

Congratulations!

Nice work.

Will be having a sub mod namely the “Whiny Diapers - whiny diapers” for those that want to whine about the first one.
