Cs-Cart Progress: January 2019 Video Report

CS-Cart Progress: What We’ve Done in January 2019 - YouTube

What we’ve done:
01:00 – the map of stores and pickup points.
02:24 – improvements to abandoned carts.
04:27 – improved API key security.
06:21 – renamed “locations” to “rate areas”.
07:36 – configurable layout for mobile devices.
08:37 – phone number input mask.
10:16 – “Free shipping” label.
11:21 – shipping information on the product page.
13:38 – common products in Multi-Vendor Plus now show the cheapest offer to customer and work with reward points.
15:05 – link to administration panel for vendors.

What we’re working on:
16:32 – version 4.10.1 with new checkout and variations.
17:27 – Lite Checkout.
17:55 – vendor invitations in Multi-Vendor.
19:24 – improvements to the Marketplace.

The correct name of the "rate areas" is Destinations, or Shipping Zones

They have to be created and managed by the vendors - not by the site admin. Make this happen and you will have a real MV. Now it's affected by shipping mononucleosis...

My next message on this issue will be on Capterra...

Ikoshin,

there is not a single world about product variations. Is it by mistake or did you abandoned/finished this feature?

Please answer the following questions:

1) Will product variations be out of beta in 4.10.1 (It will be 2 years since you're working on this feature)

2) Will product variations support bulk convertion from the product options?

3) Will product variations work with buy together, promotions etc?

Regarding lite checkout, is still didn't get any information about VAT number for the EU based e-commerce stores. Could you answer this as well?

Best regards,

Jacek

Why do you think that "rate area" is an incorrect term? We called them "rate areas" to help new users understand what the functionality is about. They go to the Shipping & Taxes menu and see the areas (zones could work just as well here, yes) that let them specify separate shipping and tax rates. I think it's even more about taxes, because unless you ship to a nearby location, you'll probably use a shipping service like UPS or DHL. In that case, the shipping rates AND the very ability to ship the items depends on the origin and destination addresses.

As for the rate areas being managed by vendors (or by storefronts in CS-Cart), I don't remember too many people requesting this functionality. My quick search around the forum and User Voice didn't yield many results either. Then again, it could be related to Multi-Vendor Plus being a relatively new product, or it could be specific to the needs of your marketplace.

Either way, we have seen your request, and the more people express interest, the sooner it will be implemented (just like it is with variations and new checkout that we're currently working on). Until then, if you need this functionality urgently, third-party developers may help with that. I've seen them offer to do the same for storefronts, so it should be doable for vendors as well.

It hasn't been abandoned. We're still working on variations, as we mentioned in the December report. January's video probably doesn't feature it because the changes were technical, and there was nothing to show. That has changed in February, and variations may get a mention in the next report. The goal is still to release new variations in 4.10.1.

I can't say if the improved variations will initially be marked as Beta or not (that will be seen closer to the release). But once the add-on does meet the needs of store owners, then it won't remain a beta for long. After all, the current variations remained a beta only because they didn't meet all the needs of our clients.

You can always check the current state of variations. Note that what you'll see below is a work in progress, and it doesn't represent the final experience. It exists at the development demo to demonstrate how variations will work.

1. Go to http://dev.demo.cs-cart.com/admin.php.
2. Uninstall the Product Variations add-on.
3. Install the Product Variations 2.0 add-on.
4. Create or edit features that allow grouping products as variations.
5. Check the Variation tab on the product editing page and see what it offers.

As for the VAT and checkout, I did reply to your comment on Slack (in a thread). Here is the summary:

I've listed that request and forwarded it to Ilya Makarov. At the moment, we're working on a more basic functionality of Lite Checkout. For example, currently Lite Checkout doesn't support custom profile fields (unlike the old checkout), and that's what we're working on.

Then again, it could be related to Multi-Vendor Plus being a relatively new product, or it could be specific to the needs of your marketplace. Until then, if you need

I have paid for MV Plus and cannot use it because of this and the Taxes issues. Isn't that enough for writing a negative review on Capterra? Not to mention the other modules that are not working on MV Plus precisely because of its Plus functionality...

I've just edited my original message a little, because I missed a sentence there.

I'm sorry that the current version of Multi-Vendor Plus doesn't suit your needs. A product such as Multi-Vendor can be used in a variety of scenarios (that's why Multi-Vendor Plus appeared in the first place), but that is also the reason why it may not always address all the needs of some specific scenario.

To change that, we track the requests of our clients made via forums, Help Desk, and User Voice, and implement the functionality that is requested the most. The frequency of requests (and the number of people requesting it) is important, because we have to set the order of implementing new features, and this is one of the ways to do it. The video reports help us regularly inform CS-Cart & Multi-Vendor community about those priorities and progress. Right now we are focused on product variations and the new checkout, exactly because many people have been requesting them.

Of course, that doesn't solve the problem with taxes that you mentioned. But even if we can't address the lack of certain functionality immediately because of other priorities, there are still ways to get that functionality quickly. Multi-Vendor's code can be modified freely (by the license owner or a third-party developer) to make it address any needs not covered by the default product. Even if there is no existing add-on for that, third-party developers are often willing to make one per your specifications, and the cost estimation is usually free.

configurable layout for mobile devices

Will just show/hide the block depend on device or will also not render the block at all for a specific device ? Thanks

Of course, that doesn't solve the problem with taxes

Both shipping rates and taxes are contingent on the ability of vendors to set up their own Destinations (aka Locations). For an International Multi-Vendor edition with separate vendor checkout (which is the business definition of MV Plus, because of which it costs $3500) this is a conditio sine qua non, an absolute imperative, not a lateral scenario born out of some lazy and capricious mind. I still believe that an easy solution can be found, especially by those who have designed such a complex system. It is indeed a matter of priority - but also of business interest.

CS-Cart are not interested in labeling their most expensive product as lame...

On the other hand, I don't see here any other members using MV Plus, so my opinion must be of paramount importance for you, as I may be the first and - упаси Бог! - the last user of MV Plus.

It will just show/hide the block. That's because phones and tablets also have portrait and landscape modes that change on the fly, and the content should follow that change.

Hi,

even the largest sites in the world leave google map services because of their high costs but cs-cart continues to develop addons using Google services. I don't understand the logic.

Imago is right...

What you all cs-cart architects don't do is, put yourselves in your customers shoes..

Say I am in USA and I have multivendor shop and there is interest from Russia and Russian vendors want to sign up, how would I know what rate areas they need? Lets say some vendors from Africa wants to join, how would I set up rate areas for them?

That is why you need to give freedom to vendors to do this...it is a simple logic...there is no need to look around user voice..but that is just me..what do I know??

It will just show/hide the block. That's because phones and tablets also have portrait and landscape modes that change on the fly, and the content should follow that change.

Thanks for the answer

To only hide/show the block will not really make any difference because that can be done right now

PS: Devices can be detected with php so portrait and landscape doesn't really matter :D

To only hide/show the block will not really make any difference because that can be done right now

After the change it will be possible without CSS knowledge. I think that's a pretty big difference for the end user.

- I hate for many years that using standard cs-cart and forms to create product inquiry page - form. You cannot know where question originated from, sku or customers details pooled from db without customer re typing all.

- Product Tabs cannot include pages..

- OK so you are improving layouts. Why grid that contains multiple blocks could not easily present blocks as tabs within some grid setting.

Cool. Previously the user had to type the class name that did the same. Now it's a breakthrough. This change will not affect weight of the page and load times. Cool. Another cool feature that you abandoned implementing AMP pages in cs-cart core.

Jokes aside, this feature introduces no added value for most of the cs-cart users. It should be implemented in PHP. It would greatly improve performance on mobile devices.

i said many times before add Category Mapping in "Advanced İmport Product" addon

Google Maps won't be a requirement for using stores and pickup points. Maps and geolocation will just extend the add-on's functionality. We already have another maps & geolocation service (Yandex.Maps) that currently doesn't require a paid API key. Google Maps integration was frequently requested by those who need maps and geolocation, but can't use Yandex.Maps for various reasons.

What we've done:
11:21 – shipping information on the product page.

Hello,

For this point, Shipping information on the Product Page, when we click on the label Shipping with icon, a the available shipping methods open in a pup-up as in this capture https://prnt.sc/nmum3t

However, we cannot change the shipping method on this pup-up! The block automatically selects the shipping with least price.

Is this a bug or it is working as designed?
