Shipping Costs

Is it possible to set up shipping costs so if I set the base price to £5.00 for anything up to 5kg, and after 5kg it would charge £0.35 per kg?

So if a product weighing 5kg would cost £5.00; a product weighing 10kg would cost £6.75 and a product weighing 13kg would cost £7.80 etc

No, you can't have international shipping for these prices.

You can use either absolute or per kg rate, depending on the location of the buyer. Then, when the potential buyer opens your product page, Shipping can be calculated for each preset destination.

Here, the item is 0.4 kg, the destination is Europe, so the shipping from Bulgaria would be 5 €

You might be able to use "Shipping Freight" for your base rate and then have the rate returned increase based on KG. Would take some playing around with.

Essentially, yes - if there are no vendors in the store, or if the vendors ship all to the same country.

If there are many vendors, from many countries, shipping to different locations, then one custom method for all of them will not work.

That's the nature of shipping methods in MVE. You can provide a setup guide for your vendors to setup their own shipping methods with that criteria. You can also have them adopt an "all vendors" shipping method into their site but as you said, it won't allow them to vary the settings. Unfortunately there's no "copy shipping method to vendor" type of functionality in standard cs-cart. Though and addon could certainly be built to do so.

Without the option to define their own Destinations and set different shipping rates for these specific locations - vendors cannot do that now, - the MVE is a crippled software. This must be fully realized by its architects. It's a blatant short-sightedness, if not conscious subversion on their part!

Like the shipping issues, promotions should be able to have a global (all stores) template. When included into the vendor's environment the properties should be able to be specified unique to a vendor without losing the basic structure/naming of the promotion/shipping method.

Example on the shipping.... Merchant requires vendors to offer a free shipping method within their country. All products have free_shipping set. Each vendor should be able to inherit a standardized free shipping method but the locations should be able to be specified by the vendor.

Another issue with the free shipping: If you set free shipping for a certain product, this option is valid only for the smallest weight defined. If the weight is higher than that, additional fees are being calculated depending on the difference in kg.

The main issues what I have with MVE is shipping and product images since start using it. MVE build like you have 10 vendors and you know their needs. You set up for them shippings, upload images and all happy.

In my case, the vendor, even have one product to sell, he can do. But for one product is the hassle and timing to set up shipping. I can do predefined set ups and assign but if it not suitable for vendor he cannot untick or choose predefined shipping methods themself.

Another thing in setup shipping per product you can not only to increase price per shipping but decrease also if you enter a negative value as per picture below. I didn't find in documentation about it but seems it works. Not sure it is correct way, but the answer from cs cart was if it works - use it.

Shipping freight can be used only for handling and packaging. I don't see any other use when there are no vendor-defined destinations.

Wasn't aware of that caveat but in some ways it makes sense.

I have tried this but it doesn't do what I need. If an item is 10kg, the shipping cost comes out as £8.50. It seems it is working it out as Base price + (Full product weight*0.35) instead of Base price + (additional weight after 5kg*0.35) where the additional weight in this example is 5kg. I hope this makes sense?

It should be charging $5 + $0.35 for every pound over 5 as I understand it. If it's calculating as you state, then it's more than likely a bug.

I have tested it on my dev site (v4.8.1 SP1) and on my live site (v4.9.2 SP1) and the same thing happens. Are you able to post this in the bug tracker please, as I am unable to start a new issue?

I have done exactly that but it still doesn't work as I was hoping. It does seem like a bug as it takes into account the full weight of all products instead of any additional weight after 5kg.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to reproduce your problem so I can adequately supply the needed details for a defect submission.

Suggest you contact helpdesk with the issue. If it's a bug they won't charge you. If it's pilot error (or my favorite "working by design"), they will.

Love this thread...I thought I was the only one struggling with Shipping and found it unnecessarily complicated and not well thought out..

I guess I was not the only one..

Funny thing is when you bring this up, they will ask you to get votes on user voice..

And the solution is so simple..like study what Etsy does or Ebay does and implement it..but oh well what do I know?

Yeah, Agree with Ghiyas, Is it conceivable to set up delivery costs so in the event that I set the base cost to £5.00 for anything up to 5kg, and after 5kg it would charge £0.35 per kg?
So if an item gauging 5kg would cost £5.00; an item gauging 10kg would cost £6.75 and an item gauging 13kg would cost £7.80 and so on...
