I'm using an out-of-the-box install of version 4.9. I'll be setting up two store fronts using the same products - one retail and one wholesale. Our wholesale customers have the option to select the type of packaging they want but we don't offer that to retail customers. Is it possible to create product options and/or variations that only apply to a certain group?
Hello Cindy
With product variants it is not possible to set group's access but we did something like that for the master of products in the Multi-Vendor Plus and it worked there. I think it could be the same here (for list variants)
Best regards
Robert
I am afraid, no. You cannot do it out of the box

Hi Robert,
Is your add-on in the Marketplace or on your website? I didn't see it in either place.
Thanks,
Cindy
Hello Cindy
We did not publish this addon. Give us a few days, let me know if it works on product variants.

Hello Cindy,
I've done some research & there is no way to assign usergroups to product variations in administration panel. However, because variations are treated as normal products, I was able to change usergroups through database.
We can write an add-on that will allow you to change the usergroups. But what should happen if customer tries to see the variant blocked for him? You probably know how variations work - there's one product in store, and switching options causes product to change price & images. What should customer see when he chooses option he is not allowed to use?

Hi Robert,
So, they'd still see the option that their user group can't purchase? Hmmm, I'll need to think on this and see how that would work.
Thanks,
Cindy

I mean, it is probably possible to make customer NOT see options they can't purchase - however, this will be really time-consuming, because options are switching using Ajax (they switch without refreshing entire page) and modifying them is not easy.
