We are running CS-CART 4.4.2 SP2 and I would like to upgrade to the latest version.
I have avoided doing so as I we had setup a number of product options in our catalog and I was reading that there were big changes coming in regards to product options / combinations.
Is that still the case?

It is separate addon and it can be disabled if you do not need this feature. Old structure of options and combinations is still supported in 4.8.x
If we enable the addon, will we have problems with the existing options or option combinations?
You shouldn't have any issues if you are not using combinations/variations.
But for a move of this many versions, it is ALWAYS best to do a trial run on a clone of your site first so that you can verify the process and the results without having your store down for a long duration if there are issues. Once you know the solution to any issues discovered, then you can easily apply them when you upgrade your production store.

Of course, no. The module just extends existing functionality and will not brake anything in your catalog
But make full backup just in case
But as I just learned, products with existing tracking definitions will remain unchanged but if addon is enabled, then Track with Options will no longer appear and you won't see option combinations.

Are you sure that your product is not configurable? On the demo I see this option with Variations addon enabled
It simply had the name, quantity, etc. added. Turning off the Product Variation addon enabled it to display the option combinations.

May be the issue is Multi-Vendor related?! Unfortunately, I cannot check the issue on the MV demo now. Try to request demo website and check it there
