Why So Many “Fake Accounts”

It seems I am having someone maybe try to hack or get in the site because since I installed the new version I am noticing each day new accounts start up, but with very weird emails (knowing thier not real, with no names, and sometimes same email over and over).

Is this normal? Anyway to correct this problem?

Is there any orders associated with these accounts, or are they just signups to the mailing lists.

Regards

Alan

It's better to set up Google reCAPTCHA addon: https://docs.cs-cart.com/4.7.x/user_guide/addons/google_recaptcha/configure_recaptcha.html

I tried to setup captcha but not too sure my settings are correct, as it shows active, but still see the accounts, and they are not associated with orders or mailing lists.

Hello!

Please enter site key and secret in the add-on settings.

You can register new key here

https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin

Thanks, I am hoping it worked, as getting the keys and stuff seemed to do the job.

So why exactly is google re-captcha better than the captcha that

CS-Cart has in mine ( Version 4.3.9 ) ?

I have been having a terrible time logging in using Google Re-captcha

on other web sites.

I was getting some spam registrations at my CS-Cart store and just went

to 5 characters instead of 4 and all has been fine ever since.

I won't be upgrading my cart until this Google problem is solved.

There is no way my customers will tolerate Google Re-Captcha

if their experience is similar to mine.

Most importantly, does CS-Cart have any plans to deprecate their

own reliable Captcha ?

As with most Big-G things, there are algorithms in place that are used to determine risk. Most notably the history of your IP address. If you've had malware issue or blacklist reporting on your IP, then it will try to be very certain that you are real. There's other stuff too like past failure rates, etc.

For me, I rarely see anything but the checkbox. So my guess is that it's more related to something specific to you versus Google re-captcha. The reason it was displaced is because the old one can be more easily spoofed by those who want to apply the effort.

But note that most cs-cart merchants aren't big enough to go through the hassle. There's just no reward from the cost involved.

On most sites where google captcha is lurking I get annoyed by signs and cars.

In the last couple of days captcha has only been acting up at one game site.

Vive the thought of revolution because the actuality is dead.

Maybe the following add-on may help you: Account Activation

Again, I think it's related to something about you! Maybe they know something we don't! :-)

Might ask a Google forum why you get nabbed and others don't.

Same IP address since the captcha 'problem' began.

A few days of it being difficult to solve ( or rather it

not seeing my answers were correct ).

Now back to 'ticks'. I haven't changed my habits so

it must remain a mystery.

Game sites :)

All good now. Just ticks but I haven't changed my normal pattern.

Maybe the game sites had a momentary bad rep. Who knows.

Couldn't be bothered going to Google forum.
