Pre Start Questione

Hi All

following CS-Cart since long ago, now almost ready to start with a project.

So I've some generic question , if someone will b so kind to answer 'erm

  • Georeferential Url

I plan to build the store ( small, below 1000 items to start ) in main lang ( Italian) then Adding English and Deutsh
installing demo test (30 days) I've already set the thing in this way, or so I presume.

Only thing I don't like/want is to have main/default language with it's own url

actually main Market it's in Italian and Italy

I'll explain better, site is old, did born on Cubecart 3.xx many years ago, then changins platform softwares, some ok , some NOT, btw lots of URL, including the actual URLs, which are those ranking good on big G.

All of them have NOT the /it/ in URLs so i'd like to have it NOT, even on default store giving I'll use same domain name , but TO have the /de/ and the /en/ for those two languages

  • Sitemap, How does it work here?

I plan to use a famous service to Migrate the whole site ( crappy Opencart) to CS-Cart, a bit worried of what can be inserted in db, btw.

Now, if I do Import Categories ( over 120) and Items, plus relevant pics etc,
to later modify the taxonomy, meaning to modify the taxonomy Before going On-Line with CS-Cart, HOW the sitemap will react to this?

Will it print out OLD and NEW taxonomies , aka same Item will have many URLs or kust the published one?

  • Still on Taxonomies

Actually in the present Store I have a long trail of Sub Sub SUb categories
certain products have this structures

- Home-root/Cat/sub/sub/sub/item

I've got this will be not possible ( SEO apart) on CS-Cart, so best practice speaking, or mod speaking, any tips to Do NOT rewrite 90% of the URLs/URIs ?

  • Any Other you, skilled, third part modder etc, find relevant for me to know.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Kind regards

You see, that CS-Cart has everything to make an international project for worldwide trade: It is possible to have an unlimited number of languages and currencies in your site. So you can set the Italian language as a default one at your store.

Also, our documentation on Canonical URLs might be useful:

By default, the site map includes links to category and information pages only. You can go to Website → Sitemap to define a set of custom sections that should be included in the site map as well.

You can change the format of SEO names:

- Product SEO URL format — specifies the product page name.

- Category SEO URL format — specifies the categories page name.

- Page SEO URL format — specifies names for other store pages.

- Other SEO URL format — specifies names for other items.

CS-Cart has more than 500 features that help your store to sell. However, if you need some customization or add-ons that are not presented on our Marketplace you can play with a code as we provide an open source code.

Could you please describe your project so I could guide you through our default features - what is the topic of your store?

Look forward to your reply.

I'm still waiting my previous response is about to be published, sorry

but ... more than 5 days I do think it's enought.

giving I'm looking for CS cart Infos = aka interest....

I'm Sorry.

Was quite sure of my reply to EkaterinaB -

So you may delete the above one- given reply seem to b missing ( and Saturn was already away... )

Back to point

I Need to know if it's possible to have

the Main Language without any code suffix in the URL

www.example.com = that's the default lang and market

But to have the OTHERS languages ( de/ en/ fr/ etc ) in the url

SO plainly to have all the ( for us) foreing languages marking up the URL, but the Main/default one

Otherwise I do need to rewrite all the thousands of URL already in my SERP.

This is VERY important , as you might understand

Also, something I'm not sure by what I've got tru forum browsing,

Is it possible to Install the CS Cart in a domain folder ( IE: www.example.com/CS-Cart )

and once migration from old software is done to Redirect it or to call it in some ways and Safely in the Root

IE: www.example.com ?

Thanks

I'll made a copy-paste this time :)

Yes, it is possible.

You can install CS-Cart at subdirectory of your domain and after the test is over, you can redirect them at main domain.

Could you please tell me, have you already installed CS-Cart on your server? If you have any problems during installation process, please contact me so I could install it for you.

Please feel free to contact me, fi you have any questions.

Look forward to your reply.

Hello EkaterinaB

thanks for your time and patience as Help.

Please let me to try to explain the matter .

I do Know you can have Many languages, like almost any other cart,
I do also know ( in my test/staging site I did it) you can choose to ADD
the ISO language suffix/ code to respective URL

in a site named example com

if that option/checkmark is ON you'll have as result :

  • www.example com/en/ for english
  • www.example com/de/ for german
  • www.example com/pt/ for portuguese

Fine, it's ok. and it's partially what I do need.

My query is slightly different or more complex.

CAN I have all the Above mentioned, while keeping the ROOT/ Default
site name ( which it's in italian for me, whith an history of 10 years in the SERP )

without the suffix/ISO code in main language?

I do know it's possibly even in F-open Cart ( which I'm actually using)

Put it in Another way

I have a domain with thousands of indexed urls, I can't waste all changing/rewriting

All the Urls putting the Iso/Suffix /it/ in the middle
of any existing/indexed/cached URL

BUT at same time I do need the multilanguage, so it's needed to have

all the Other relevant ISO/Suffix in the urls

as in

  • www.example com/en/something for english
  • www.example com/de/something for german
  • www.example com/pt/something for portuguese

Sorry if its a repetition but it does seem we can't get it right

as per the screenshot you pasted me does NOT show this But the Multicurrency and language Only.

Kind Regards

And many thanks for the help given.

Also,

just a link will do I hope

I'd like to start from scrath with filters.

Filtering products by those 7/8 brands

Do you, or someone else passing by, have any tips or best practise on it

Selling spare 'automotive' parts, so to find by Brands seems to be most viable and ease of use for customers

...nothing?

Hello,

I think what is meant overhere is that in the SEO settings you can define that you want to have the lang code as a suffix. However, this will be set for all the languages. On the contrary, this user wants to have the suffix only for the german and portugese language.

This can be achieved in multiple ways.

1. You rewrite the SEO add-on.

2. You create a new storefront for each language. So German and Portugese will be subdirectories and Italian will be on the top level domain.

We have a specialist in UI, so he will be able to hook you up with a nice way to filter everything.

Lorenzo, if you have any questions or are interested in our services please send me an e-mail: sales@poppedweb.com

Cheers!

You can not have the main language without it showing in the url, unfortunately. It would need some custom coding.

You could however, with some 301 redirect rules, redirect all links that don't have a language code in them to your main language. This way your links will continue to work. At least I think this is possible.

As for filters - yes this is possible. You could place a block on category view. Say your category is tires, you could filter them by size, brand, for X brand car, etc.

Thanks for you help and tips.

You correctly interpreted my need on SEO Urls.

Weird I can't have it as even much lower class Carts do that.

BTW thank you very much .

Also for the mail address.

Thanks Flow.

incidentally I poped over your profile just this morning.

back I.T. , I though there was an out of the box thing for that.

Giving CS.-Cart is the 'next-level' for growing business aka exixting stores, aka esixting URIs.

So to have something that LET you to maintain your OLD uris and increase them with additional languages ( new Uris)

even that (..omiss..) of Opencart has it.

I'm going to better study my friend .htaccess on CS-Cart to see IF can be SEO sensible and convenient to strip

out the laguage suffix from Main language URL ( the OLD Uris ) but leaving it in place for the 'new/additional' languages

Giving a multistore is not to been taken in consideration now, even because we just migrated our products from 'old' Opencart

Btw thanks for help and addressing this issue .

-which I'm sure it does affect many newcomers to this platform-

It is possible to do without extra coding whatsoever.

Hello again.

Yes as above said,
And thanks for taking time to evaluate my needs,
I think an .htaccess rewrite shall do. But not really confident as what BOTs will see/read out of it..

So back to square one.

I do understand big Update is coming out in near time on CS-Cart, so it isnt smart to go for core mod.

Ad we don't know what will come out. And we are still in the 30 days ...

Out of respect, but I'm feeling no more so confident in this platform choice...

Also,

just a link will do I hope

Oh, I've forgot.. sorry

I did build from scratch this filtering by brands, nice and all. Working Ok

But, is it possible , once landed to the Brand Page, with All that brand product to furter filter Them?

IE : brand Honda ( for me ) in the Brand page/s I'll have about 200 items/products, from Wires to Engine Oil...

too messy. And I can' find a layout or for my ignorance can't find the Brand Page Layout so to add even an additional

menu or else to filter in dedicated categories the BRAND 's products.

Thanks

( BTW as a newbie I can't attribute any other positive evaluation on your reply/s -so please forgive it's not miseducation )
