4.2.3 Time To Upgrade, But Need Someone To Do

Hi Guys,

I have never been a programmer, or even remotely good at doing upgrades and I think its time.

But I do not want to lose my customer database, order database, inventory, shipping settings, payment settings, and general information. I had a few mods done that I like to keep, but not sure it is possible?

I think maybe I would like to try for a new look, but not sure I can afford an upgrade, someone to install, and a new look.

Anyone interested? if so let me know the cost.

We can do an upgrade of your store. Can you send a request for free quote to sales@beencart.com?

Dog eat dog world ain't it.?

Well it seems CS-Cart will be out for me after so many years. ☹️ I am told my current design is also not going to work with upgrade. So having to upgrade costing $200 plus having to do a total new design, and also trying to keep the mods would be well over $300. Seems maybe I am best to scratch entire site and go for a new system.

I enjoyed cs-cart, but may be time to find another that is not always so costly to upgrade. Any advice?

I hate having the forum turn into a sales channel. I've tried to avoid playing in that game but have watched things slowly decline to the point where I either have to play the game or leave the field.

I guess I'd ask a couple of questions:

1) What is your current version and if you're really out of date, why did you let yourself get so far behind? A release or two is prudent, but major versions (after first dot release) is not.

2) What is driving you to a newer version. If everything works for you and there are no regulation that require some of the newer features, why change?

3) Why were your design changes not done in a portable manner if you're within the current version (V4)?

There is very little performance difference in any of the V4 releases in the past 2 years. New features are but a few (email editor that is impossible for addon developers to use), product variations and maybe a couple of little things like Google Recaptcha. But stuff is mostly bug fixes and you should be able to get the relevant ones provided to you via the helpdesk at no charge.

So, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Very true, all works fine, but sometimes the system does not keep track of inventory correctly when a out of USA customer wants to purchase. For some reason the system doesnt show out of stock for them until its too late.

Also I worry about security, am I fine with my 4.2.3 version? And finally I just need a fresh new look, my site looks like it was made in 1995 :-)

Not been many security updates other than the Google Recaptcha since your version. And that can be applied as an addon.

Not sure you can blame the design issues on cs-cart. Spend a couple hundred dollars to buy a nice theme and a front-end person to tweak it to your needs. it should last you through many version upgrades if it's done right.

Consider the cost and learning curve of a new platform....

You'll have to spend on new design as its really look 90`s.. Also its not responsive design so I guess if you will not progress you will not be found in google sooner or later..

cs-cart is great shopping cart mainly because I can tweak much of the html css layouts myself easily. It would be best if developers would listen more what users say..

My five cents.

First of all there was a big work done to improve CS-Cart performance in 4.3.1 http://blog.cs-cart.com/2015/02/11/speed-boost-in-cs-cart-4-3-1-beta/
And it's not a marketing stuff or something. We spent a lot of time on it, these result are real.

Also I would like to second Darius. Take a look at this statics http://www.businessinsider.com/mobile-commerce-shopping-trends-stats-2016-10
or any other that you can find in the Google.
So the first thing I would recommend you to do is check how many "new users" come to your site from mobile devices - almost 100% you are losing with current design.

Here you can find short description of all CS-cart releases. http://forum.cs-cart.com/topic/35962-brief-historytimeline-of-cs-cart/

At least check responsive themes compatible with 4.2.3 version on the marketplace

But not much in the past 2 years that is not related to underlying system stuff like PHP-7.

Can not agree with you on this.
In 2016 we spent some time on this addon: https://github.com/cscart/full-page-cache-addon/
