If i am changing the category for a specific product, the url of the product remains the same.
How can i change the product url such that it contains the new category?
The seo setup for product is: category/sub-category/product-name.
Thanks,
Stefan
If you go to the product settings page in the backend and look in front of the category names (underneath the 'add categories' button) you will see circles which you can click. Click your desired category here and save the page.
@poppedweb - i know that, and thats exactly what i did, yet the link of the product remains with the initial category!
@Alt-team - i did save the changes, cleared the cache just in case, nothing happens. I know how to use 301 redirects, the ideea is that i want to move the product to another category without changing it's seo name
More, if i put the product in 2 categories, it is shown correctly in both, but i can't change it's base cateogry....

Stefan,
Have you checked this issue on the official demo? Does it work on demo?
To be honest it is not quite clear what you want to do.
1)
the ideea is that i want to move the product to another category without changing it's seo name
2)
How can i change the product url such that it contains the new category?
So should url change or not? what category should be in url: new or old?
yes, i did checked the demo and it is working as it should.
For example, i have product A in category C1 with seo name /category-C1/productA-seo-name, and i want to move it to category C2. I go to Edit product-General, Add categories, select category C2 and click Add categories and close, remove category C1 and save. Then if i go to Edit product-SEO the seo name is /category-C2/productA-seo-name
In my case, whatever I do, when i go to Edit product-SEO, the seo name is /category-C1/productA-seo-name.
Be sure when on the General tab that you delete all categories then save. Go back in and add the C2 category, then check the SEO. I experienced the same thing, then saw that I hadn't really deleted my original category so the SEO wasn't changed.

Maybe i misunderstood you, but you cannot save a product with no category...
