Access A Small Orange Server W/o Dns

So i just migrated to Site ground, and wanted to use my space over at ASO for offsite dev since its paid up for awhile, Unfortunately I cant access the files without a DNS it seems.....???????

http://jamayla.asoshared.com/~username/

Gets me to index.htm I presume because I get, service unavailable, thinking store was switched off during migration.

But any attempt at http://jamayla.asoshared.com/~username/admin.php

Goes nowhere.......

Tech support had no answer????? Well kinda......

Other than this article, If anyone smarter than me could chime in as to if this makes sense, I am not new to the hosts file, but from what I read It is unlikely to work? Or am I completely wrong??

and if it where to work Tech support was useless as to the values I would enter Step 8 and 10....

Thanks to anyone who has the time....

Hi, what do you mean with "nowhere"? Does it open any error page?

Just make your old site run as a subdomain (dev.mysite.com) and use a separate DNS A record for the sub domain.

Change config.local.php and add it as a subdomain your cpanel. Clear your cache and turn off any https you might be running and you should be all set.

Maybe not the 'tech support' that is not working well but the understanding and Tony said about running a separate DNS entry for your CS Cart installation such as 'dev.jamayla.asoshared.com but ideally you should have your own TLD .com such as 'yourco.com' (Example only).

Then have:

dev.yourco.com (Development test ground)
staging.yourco.com (Pre Deployment Platform, not applicable for most people, more like a pre-stable)

www.yourco.com (Live)

Note: replacing yourco.com with your chosen domain name and extension.

If you need a consultant to help with your configuration you can drop me a line :)

Tony, Mark, thank you for your precise answers, and continuing to make these forums relevant ;)

I accessed my data , got what I needed and have decided to try to Dev locally like I did in the old days,

Have installed Xampp on a test machine (Win 10 64 New install) and all was well with a fresh install of 4.2.4 , but my main

office computer ( This is where I actually want my Dev Server) wont have it........ and I would like to know how to Troubleshoot

the (Fresh) install as I am getting no errors, ..the install bar gets

just a little past setting up stores then just disappears, ( Why no errors?) and nothing......i can hit install all day long and it keeps

doing the same thing...I thought it might be a port conflict with VM ware so I uninstalled that, but still no go.....

Sorry I didn't start a new post in the correct area, If I cant figure this quick I will do so....

You would be better off to set up Virtualbox on your main office system if you designate it as your 'local dev sever'. Download CentOS and setup a Linux environment. Windows is not ideally supported and will lead you to further issues down the line.

Agree. cs-cart isn't really supported on Windoz servers and you'll just have headaches in trying to develop/diagnose/debug on anything other than Linux.
