Cs-Cart 4.4.1 Beta Is Available To Testers

Hello!

Earlier, we announced a closed testing of CS-Cart 4.4.1 Alpha. We’ve collected some feedback, and now it’s high time for CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta!

Three goals of this beta testing are to make sure:

  • The upgrade process is smooth and conflict free

  • Your add-ons and themes work well

  • The email template and document editor function fine, as well as other new features

How to Participate in the Beta Testing

You can test CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta in two ways:

  • By upgrading your test copy of 4.3.9 or 4.3.10

  • By downloading the installation package from Help Desk

Important! CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta is not a production release, so it could have major bugs. DO NOT upgrade LIVE stores to CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta. Make a copy of your live store and upgrade that copy.

The upgrade to CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta is available for everyone with a special beta license. You can get 4.4.1 Beta by upgrading your 4.3.9 or 4.3.10 via the Upgrade Center. The upgrade to beta is available for CS-Cart, Multi-Vendor, and CS-Cart Russian Build. To upgrade:

  • Make a copy of your store so that you can test the upgrade safely on that copy.

  • Wait for a newsletter from Ilya Makarov (CS-Cart CTO) containing a special license key for CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta. The newsletter is coming to all our partner developers and beta testers tomorrow.

  • Change the license of your copy store to that beta license.

  • Go to the Upgrade Center and upgrade to CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta.

Downloading the installation package is only available for the Beta Testers user group. If you participated in the 4.4.1 alpha testing, you are in this group. You can now download the installation package in Help Desk → File Area → Beta Testing.

If you never tested the alpha, you can still get the CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta installation package. To enter the Beta Testers user group, leave a request in Help Desk saying you want to participate in the beta testing. After you receive a user-group confirmation, download the installation package in Help Desk → File Area → Beta Testing.

We’ve created a bug tracking thread for CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta, so please report bugs there. In that thread, post about the upgrade process, as well as functionality and backward compatibility issues. And, of course, you’re welcome to share your thoughts and ask any questions about CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta here.

Although it’s a beta version, it’s still a minor release with new features. Some of them will migrate to the production release ‘as is’ and some we’ll polish. So it’s important for our customers and us to ensure those features work correctly at the beta stage. Some of the new features of CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta include:

  • Email template editor. By using the email template editor, admins manage all the email notifications of the store and modify them right in the admin panel without diving into code editing. In Design → Email templates, you can see all the email notifications a customer and an admin can ever receive. Click the one you need to edit and change its contents by inserting the necessary variables in plain text mode.

  • Document editor. The document editor allows store admins to construct and edit invoices, packing slips, and gift certificates in the admin panel. The workflow is similar to email editing: in Design → Documents, choose the document you want to edit and modify it by inserting variables and code snippets.

  • New logic of themes. The new logic of theme functioning includes theme dependency, upgrade, and add-on installation changes. A major benefit from this new logic is that custom themes won’t be broken after the store upgrade because the upgrade only affects the default Responsive theme. CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta includes a new theme called “Bright”, useful for developers in understanding how theme dependency logic now works.

  • Vendor subscription plans. Multi-Vendor 4.4.1 Beta features the vendor subscription plans function, which allows marketplace owners to create plans for vendors with certain restrictions, such as the maximum number of products, the amount of commission, etc. We’ve been offering this feature as an early-access add-on; now this add-on is built into the distribution package.

  • File changes detector. To make the upgrade process of a CS-Cart store smooth and error free, admins should keep the CS-Cart core files unchanged. To track core changes, we’re presenting another helpful feature in 4.4.1—a file changes detector. This detector scans the CS-Cart core for changes automatically when you log in to the admin panel. You can also launch it manually in Administration → File changes detector. The detector warns you in advance that you can lose your changes in the core files after the next upgrade.

  • Simplified product feature management. We’ve reworked feature management on the Products → Features page. Now, working with feature groups is clearer: instead of a complicated tree of features and feature groups mixed together, you can see four separate columns: Feature, Group, Categories, and Status. On the right sidebar, you can search for features, filtering them by groups via a drop-down.

  • Updated API of UPS and FedEx carriers. The updated integration adds new shipping services for these two carriers.

  • Simplified shipment creation. In CS-Cart, admins can ship an order in a single package as well as in several packages. To create several shipments for a single order, there was a special setting, “Allow multiple shipments for a single order”. We have removed that setting and simplified shipment creation. Now admins create both single shipments and multiple shipments for an order via a single simplified form on the order details page. No more excessive pop-ups and settings.

  • Font Awesome icons in the admin panel. To make icons look nice and sharp on Retina displays, we’ve replaced PNG icons with Font Awesome ones.

----

Remember, CS-Cart 4.4.1 Beta is not a production release, so please do not upgrade live stores. Make a copy of a live store in a subdirectory and then upgrade that copy.

Please check if the upgrade process is error free, your add-ons work well, and the new features, too. We expect you to report bugs to this bug tracking thread.

Thank you and happy testing!

I like to get a copy for testing where do I apply ?

Disregard this.

File changes detector:

There is no need to scan files everytime an admin logs in control panel.. it is best to do it manualy or at least.. add an option.. so that we can choose if we want files to be scanned every time.

To explain you the situation... we have made some addons that modify core php files so that we can make it work as customer requested. It would be annoying if store admin gets that message everytime..

There is a special setting for this on Settings -> General - "Monitor changes in core files:" you can disable it.

You can make a manual files check anytime, go to Administration -> File Changes Detector.
