Existing Domain To New Domain

Hi All

I have searched the forums and can find posts but NOT one that can help me totally.

I want to............

Move my existing cart (content etc) form my existing domain, domain.co.uk to a fresh install on a new domain, newdomain.co.uk.

They are both on the same server.

So in essence I want to do the equivalent to a store import.

New domain with all old domain features, products, appearance etc BUT a fresh install.

My question is how to achieve this when you are not a GURU????

Many thanks in advance!

Barry

- Make fresh install

- Create full website backup on the live store (Administration -> Backup/Restore)

- Restore it in the free installation

- Clear cache (or remove the var/cache directory)

- Log in the admin panel and correct store-front URLs (Administration -> Stores)

Backup/Restore only backs up the database though, correct? What about product images and such...they would need to be moved to the new server also, correct?

In the latest versions you can also backup core files and extra folders like images

Great! Does it work as expected?

Only if your server can handle it.

Right! Please increase timeout settings if you have big store

Hi

Thank you for the help.

I ended up only backing up files as the images (As The Tool said) was too much and it stalled, I copied it over seperately.

I also had to ammend the Htaccess, Categories and quite a few other places as they were redirecting to the old domain.

Other than this it went quite well.

Thanks again

Barry

Just curious eCom and The Tool why not just move all the files over after you cleared the cache either throuoght cc&ctpl and or by deleting the content of the ./var/cache directory and then amend a few tables ?

I'm not sure what you mean.? BarryH is/was wanting to do a store import on a clean install (from an old version to a newer version of CSC}. Your example is only stating moving an installation from one place on to another.

Well pardon me but I did not read that in his post.
