The Vendor Commission Add-On: Remove Or Keep?

Hello guys,

Starting from Multi-Vendor 4.3.6, we offer the Vendor Plans add-on. This add-on allows marketplace owners to offer vendors subscription plans with certain restrictions, such as maximum number of products, maximum revenue, and more. You can download this add-on from the File area of your Help Desk accounts as it doesn’t come with the Multi-Vendor installation package.

Besides other features, the Vendor Plans add-on gives you control over vendor commissions. That’s why the Vendor Plans add-on is not compatible with the Vendor Commission add-on. Before using Vendor Plans, you have to disable the Vendor Commission add-on first. This fact complicates the usage of Vendor Plans and confuses marketplace owners.

After some discussion, we decided to remove the Vendor Commission add-on and include Vendor Plans in Multi-Vendor 4.4.1 by default. Vendor Plans can be used either for commissions or plans: if the plan is hidden, it is only used for taking commission from vendors. Since the plan is hidden, other vendors cannot subscribe to that plan. Literally speaking, if you only need the vendor commission feature and don’t need plans, you can still use the Vendor Plans add-on, piece of cake.

After the upgrade to Multi-Vendor 4.4.1, all your current vendor commissions will be automatically transformed into separate hidden plans and those plans will be assigned to corresponding vendors. Everything will keep working the same.

Before making an ultimate decision whether to remove the Vendor Commission add-on or not, we’d like to know what you think about our move. Do you really need the Vendor Commission add-on while Vendor Plans includes the same functionality? Please spare one minute to answer this question in our poll.

Comments here are also appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

If multi-vendor users can use vendor commission using vendor plan then it will no problem.

If we compare vendor commission with vendor plan then vendor plan covers both vendor commission and vendor plans.

Thank you.

My code uses vendor categories. When the Vendor commission add on is uninstalled, it deletes all vendor category information. See this bug that I logged - http://forum.cs-cart.com/tracker/issue-6457-very-serious-vendor-commission-add-on-problems/

When you replace vendor commission with vendor plans, please conserve existing vendor categories data.

I have voted to remove vendor commission - but please do not destroy all existing vendor category information.

Is the schema for the vendor_payout table the same?

I'm in the middle of developing an extended commission system where the merchant can define a much finer granularity what is commisionable and what is not. I add a column to the table and store serialized data there. That data is then displayed when the notes area of the current vendor_commission page is expanded.

This will also tie into a new vendor payment module we are developing which will allow for esrow and other services for vendor payouts (and of course it will dovetail with the extended_commissions addon we've done).

I went to get your addon but it's a paid addon now so I couldn't install/compare it to see if it breaks things or not.

During upgrade to 4.4.1 all categories assigned to vendors will be moved to hidden plans and thus vendor will still be limited to the same categories as in 4.3.9

Hello,

Apart from creating seller plans, it is also an important feature to create different commission amounts for each category and pay the seller by calculating it.As with Amazon and similar platforms, it is a feature that many people want.

The price of the package plan is not a preferred feature of the sellers. They want to pay commissions on the products they sell. There may be two options (package plan and commission by category) but it would be nice to be able to select this and hide the unused whenever desired. I think it should be in a system like CS-Cart.
Thanks
Have a nice day.

That feature your are talking about is already available on both Multi-Vendor Plus and Multi-Vendor Ultimate.

Yes, this feature exists, but it needs to be set separately. You cannot create plans like this in the Vendor plans section. I think it would be good to create a Vendor plan with this request. This is what I need for my customer right now. We set commissions from each category. For purchase from every sale. But we need to add Vendor Plan to every reseller. Otherwise, Vendors' own Store sections are not active.
