Products or categories, do not matter.  The info about is relevant to both.  You'd still want to know how they got to your landing page for your category (Referrer) and it would be really helpful to be able to follow their navigation from landing page to purchase (or leave site).  if 30% of your shoppers leave your site after navigating to the product details page then you might want to investigate what it is about that page that gives it such a high abandonment rate.


As I said, you can develop this internally to meet your specific needs but there are many 3rd party services that already do this and you might want to integrate their tracking solutions into your store.
