A loyalty or rewards program drives customers to spend more on our websites and increases the number of orders and attracts new customers.
When I first informed about CS-Cart features with CS-Cart support they mentioned that this was included. But as far as I can see there are only promotions, but not rewards.
For example:
I would like to reward customers who refer other customers. For example by giving them $5 credit plus 5% ongoing credit for everything their referrals buy.
I would like to reward customers who reorder. For example by giving them 5% discount on their next order. This motivates them to come back.
I am sure there are many ways that webmasters would use a loyalty program.
Generally this is accomplished via a combination of 3 things:
1) promotions
2) Reward Points
3) Affiliates
And of course, you can do custom logic to trap events where you want to assign reward points or offer a promotion. We do this type of custom work all the time for clients.
Reward points are designed to be used on purchases. So if you want to assign a user reward points because someone came to the site and registered, that would require custom development (as an addon) to identify the request and the receiving user and take the action.
Same goes if you want to create a promotion (or use an existing promotion like giving a coupon code to someone). If you want to email that to them, it would require some custom development.
But if you just want to reward them for purchasing, then use reward points.
I see I can use promotions to give out a discount coupon if certain conditions are met. I find it pretty confusing. I would like to give all customers a 5% discount on their next order.
I would probably need to use automatic generated coupon codes but it returns 'no data found'. The knowledge base is very unclear about this. Apparently I need to generate coupons first, but they are automatically generated. And it needs to relate to a specific order it seems, which seems strange for automatically generated coupons. Its unclear what I need to do and where. Or if its even possible to give customers a 5% discount on their next order.
Affiliates seems to be for a standard affiliate banner/link tracking scheme, but nothing like a customer loyalty & friend referral program.
The rewards points addon will not even activate. I am afraid that its not functional in CSC 4.2.4.

Reward points addon should work on cs-cart v4.2.4. What is the error message when you try to make it active?
Check your php error_log file and possibly clear the cache manually before enabling the addon (it should clear it when it's installed/activated, but sometimes....)
