I've searched online, checked the Knowledge Base and there is next to no information about this kind of feature. What is it? What does it do?
I'm talking of course about the Add Link option within the page content section.

It's just a blank page. The URL I provided was Google.com but nothing happens.

From the reference guide we can see that the Link is reference to an external web resource or any page in your web site. Try to specify URL with protocol. E.g. http://google.com

I know, I read the KB article and it still doesn't explain what it actually is. Is it used for menus to act as a kind of redirect to another resource perhaps?
At the moment it just doesn't really do anything and the explanation is quite vague to say the least.
For example, you have a block with CMS pages at the left and one of them should refer to an external resource (e.g. your blog or partner website)
