What Program To Use For Importing Data? (Problems!)

I have Office 2010, and also tried the newest OpenOffice, and I can't seem to get things to import. I made a test product, exported that to file (Catagory and Product Name), changed the name of the product only, saved, and tried to import it, and it gives me error messages. I go to Admin>Import>Products:

With open office I get: ErrorYour import file MUST have the following fields: Product code

With Microsoft Office 2010 I get: WarningYour CSV file has incorrect data formatting (incorrect delimiter, missed/missing fields, etc.) in the following lines: 2

Thanks for the help!

Check the delimiter in your csv file after it has been modified in Office (open it in any simple text editor).

It should be a comma, a tab or a semicolon.

Make sure you select the corresponding delimiter while importing the file in CS-Cart.

Try to open CSV file with any text editor and check if the delimiter and enclosure symbols are correct

Aside from previous suggestions, there are required fields (Product code, Language) you must have so the system can associate the data with.

Well the default delimiter is set for /// for Catagory and Feature Variant's. I did not mess with those settings while exporting the test product, as I really have no idea what they are lol.

			Product code;Language;Category;Product name

			;"en";"Nintendo///Nintendo Gamecube///Gamecube Games";"TEST GAMECUBE"

Is what it exported, doing a direct open. TEST GAMECUBE is the product. After I rename it to say GAMENAME1 I have:

			Product code;Language;Category;Product name

			;"en";"Nintendo///Nintendo Gamecube///Gamecube Games";"GAMENAME1"

And I get the error message: ErrorThe delimiter in CSV file differs from the one selected by you

I do get the message while trying to save in Excel 2010:

myfilename.csv may contain features not compatiable with CSV (Comma delimited) Do you want to keep this format? To keep this format which leaves out any incompatible features, click yes: To preserve the features click No. Then save a copy in the latest excel format. To see what might be lost, click Help.

I clicked NO on the example above. But even yes, does the same thing saying:

Clicking yes says: WarningYour CSV file has incorrect data formatting (incorrect delimiter, missed/missing fields, etc.) in the following lines: 2

The category delimiter is different and has nothing to do with the error.

By default Excel saves the file as comma separated. By default CSC imports/exports by semicolon separated so before you import the edited Excel file, select comma on the import page.

All these years with CSC and this is the first time you have import/exported?

Yep, I manually entered everything by hand before. In the middle of a total site overhaul and redoing inventory and everything. Don't really want to do by hand this time =P lol Thanks I will give that a shot.

Office is realy great but it will not save an csv as utf 8 document. Use OpenOffice after you have formatted your document to save it properly. Click save as and then select the checkbox under for additional settings. Also office is using windows settings for decimals and separators. Chevk the regional box under control panel

Still getting: ErrorThe delimiter in CSV file differs from the one selected by you

I tried clicking yes option and no option as stated above, and importing as comma, same issue.

Thanks Demeldoo, will give that a try now.

Yeah no idea why the hell I am having so many problems with this. Should I open it as utf8 when Openoffice asks? When I click save as, it comes up so I can save the file name, but not seeing advanced settings.

I am getting this now but appear's to be skipping?

ImportantData is imported successfully.
New objects - 0;
Updated objects - 0;
Skipped objects - 5;
Total - 5.

I even downloaded the test.csv file from the knowledgebase, changed the catagories, deleted everything except product code, language (had to manually insert this one), product name and catagory. And still get the skipped message above. I am going out of my mind with this lol.

Making some sort of progress. Got it to import, but it is not importing to the correct catagory. I did a sample export and copy/pasted that catagory there. It appears to also be overwriting an existing product and just changing the name, in a totally different catagory. The Category is correct, but it is pasting it under the first category in that category tree. "Nintendo///Nintendo Gamecube///Gamecube Games" it is actually putting it in Nintendo///Nintendo///Nintendo Games

Any idea's why it would be putting it in the wrong (first) category?

What do you see near the Categories parameter on the Update product page in the admin panel:

Is product assigned only to one category?

We would really need to see the CSV file with all the info on it to have a look at the issue properly.. It sounds to me that you are using some special characters in you product names etc.

Alan

Here is the last one I tried to upload and it put it in wrong category. The category is correct, as it is a copy/paste of the export downloaded file of a test item in the same one.

Use save as and then check edit filter settibgs. When popup appears try ; as filed delimiter and select utf-8 above. Hope will work ;) and check category delimiter in cs cart and in the import file. /// is standard

Thanks. Going through inventory at the moment, but will give it a shot here in the next hour or so.

Ok, got it to work...one time. And now I try again and it is back to the same crap of renaming an existing product lol. Trying to figure out what I did. I am seriously going nuts over this.

Yep just 1 category
