By Widget mode you mean the Facebook store add-on, correct? Can this be adapted for other social media sites or would other add-ons need to be developed for them, which would take advantage of underlying CS-Cart widget mode functionality?

Well, I spat the dummy and started up a trial at Bigcommerce.
After years of hosts blaming CS-Cart and vice versa I just wanted
some peace. I tried it before over the years ( as well as others ) but it can't hold
a candle to CS-Cart.
Bigcommerce fell short of CS-Cart in so many ways that I decided to stay.
CS-Cart really is the best value for money that I have found out there.
I rarely have hosting issues. Just get an adequate VPS that you can control and spend the $70 - $100/month it takes for a quality environment with managed support. There are only 2 real requirements from my perspective.
- Minimum 4G of memory (up to 8G if your site is very active or you use a lot of product features).
- SSD drives (at least 4X your site size - after thumbnails are created). So typical would be like 80GB of disk.
The cpu gets lost in the noise. Turn off mod_security and use the default set_timeout() values and you should run forever.
Personally, for the vast majority of small merchants (cs-cart common purchasers) I'd stay away from cloud based environments and I'd also stay away from CDN providers. You have to generate a lot of sales to justify the cost of a QUALITY cdn provider.

well from my personal expirience in the last 7 years I am working with CS-Cart, the only provider I am 100% satsified is hostmein (https://hostmein.gr/).
I have all my hosted clients (over 300) there and have no problems any more since the first day I started woriking with them (thats almost 2 years now).
Have a look youself, they got many different choices, and they know CS-Cart very well.

Unfortunately I don't recommend hosting anymore. This is not due to my lack of knowledge, but more about changes/transitions that various hosting companies go through as they grow or decline. I.e. Hostgator used to have great support and reasonable prices, now it sucks. If I recommend something, then my reputation gets tied to the hosting company. I've been around long enough to know that's not a stable reputation to rely on.
I would investigate hostings in the primary locale of my customers. I.e. if you sell mostly to US, then a hosting with US data center(s). If you sell mostly in China, then I'd go there (same for Europe). But if you're truly a worldwide supplier, then you probably do want to use CDN services. But go for a good one, not a cheap one.

Couldnt agree more with that. Well as I said almost after 7 years CS-Cart but more than 10 years in the things of internet, I know what I need from hosting. I had all kinds of hosting companies (UK, USA, Germany) it is true that whenthey get big they get worse. But this is the case and you got to work with it. So as said now I work with the guys over Hostmein. Its not a huge company and we can work very nice together, as I know personaly the guys over there. But mostly they know their CS-Cart stuff. Thats huge for me as we talk the same language.

Yes hosting is hit and miss but you don't need to pay big bucks unless you really want someone to do almost everything for you. I'm getting near my end of a 3 year deal with hostgator with cost £100 for 3 years. apart from hostgator, which I only use for wordpress blogs, for my real work I've also got a VPS which costs me 4 euro a month and a dedicated server that costs me 40 euro a month :-)
Take things like "managed" and cpanel out of the equation and the price drops a lot :-)

Fair comment tbirnseth. CS-Cart's own recommendations didn't work out too well...lol
dvsgr...hostmein looks good but I am wavering again as to whether to stick with CS-Cart
or jump ship to a fully hosted cart. BC doesn't stack up feature wise but may make for
a more relaxing ride.
I'm using linode VPS with one of their webuzo control panel pre-configured system. It is pretty straight forward. I pay $10 / month and get around 3sec. load time and avg. 400ms response time for CS-Cart home page (4.3.3).
I would completely stay away from hostgator and a2hosting. My experience with their cpanel setup has been very sour. Dreamhost seems to be getting caught up with SSD hardware so theirs could be alternative if you don't want to deal with VPS configuration.
