Beta Testing Of Upgrade 4.3.3 - 4.3.4

Hi guys,

We've made some improvements in the Upgrade Center and Upgrade package and we need your help to make sure it works fine on all servers with all databases.

What we need:

  • We need access to servers with copy of your live store to make a test upgrade on it.

    How can you help:

    You can either:
  • Provide us with access to your server and confirm that allow us to clone your live store to a subfolder for the experiment.
  • Make a clone of your store yourself and provide us FTP/SSH access to the folder with this store

In order to do this please post ticket a new ticket to Help Desk. with

“Upgrade to 4.3.4 testing for imac” title and don't forget to add Access Information.

Please create ticket only in case you had some problems with upgrade to 4.3.2 or to 4.3.3.

    Thank you!

    P.S.
  • I will personally control all these tests.
  • Your live store won't be affected, absolutely.

Can I give you a 4.2.4 to upgrade? :D

What are the improvements you've made? Number one on my list would be making the diff of “modified files” available BEFORE the upgrade so someone can get a sense of what they might be getting into before they start and then have to restore because they just don't have time to do it with their store offline.

Hi Tony,
>Number one on my list would be making the diff of "modified files"
Under review at the moment. Won't be included in 4.3.4

>BEFORE the upgrade so someone can get a sense of what they might be getting into
When admin clicks Install button he will see a popup with upgrade tips like
- make sure you understand what you are doing
- contact tech support or developers to perform the upgrade
- we recommend to performa the upgrade on a test/local installation
- check server mac_execution_time is working correctly
etc

We also
-moved the restore.php out of the var folder - so those who on SuPHP should not have 500 Server error anymore.
-improved logging of upgrade process - now it has much more details.
-added the feature to display all the installed updated (including add-ons)

Hi Tony,

The diff feature used to be available and was removed.

In 4.3.1 (when upgrading from 4.2.4) I get a list of files that are "modified" (many of which is NOT true).

However, when I go to the backup directory, there are tons more files than what was listed. I have no way to review what's now been installed against what existed before so that any real changes can be re-applied.

You should make the pre-diff a prioroty for 4.3.4. And also ensure that only files that have really been locally modified are listed.

4.3.4 development is closed already. So only in 4.3.5.

Can you please let me know if you face the problem with files showed as modified again with other 4.3.x upgrades.

I've gotten notice that language files have been modified when upgrading my dev site. I never touch any of those files.

That's just one example. But I'll take note the next time to get you an exact list. My dev environment is pretty much a demo site and almost all modifications are in my addons and NOT within distributed files (few minor exceptions for mods made for clients to extend my addons to meet their needs).

But the lang files are the most recent I remember that demonstrate that the detection of modifications in not working properly.

So how do I find what files really changed so I can do a diff (shell diff) to see what's actually changed?

tony

So, my dear Ilya Makarov, your team has finalized the development of version 4.3.4, so when can I see the release in my 'File Area'. Also do go through Mr. Tony request in next release.

I upgraded a site from 4.2.4 to 4.3.1. I did not adjust anything after this but went directly to the next upgrade (4.3.1 -> 4.3.2). This is the file modifications it shows for that upgrade. Note that none of these has every been modified locally.

These files have local modifications and will be backed up; resolve the conflicts after the upgrade is complete.

Please also get rid of Phar. The old Tar_Archive class is about 10X faster and actually works. Phar is a performance pig and right now I can't continue with the upgrades because of this error: I've tried twice now with same results. There is plenty of space on the serever (72GB available) and there is also plenty of memory.

Errorphar zip flush of "/home/usflagsu/devx/var/cache/misc/tmp/backup/03Sep2015_133330.zip" failed: unable to write contents of file "design/themes/business_template_us_mil/media/images/thumbnails/389/556/detailed/13/Poly_Weave_28ko-du.jpg" in zip-based phar "/home/usflagsu/devx/var/cache/misc/tmp/backup/03Sep2015_133330.zip"

What server do you use is it Virtual or VPS, also is PHP working as apache mod or FastCGI

Also check what is in upgrade logs? var/upgrade/core_log.txt

At the moment we stopped testing on client servers. So you can do it by yourself or with tech support help.

How about message #11? This whole process has been completely time consuming and crazy. Submit to helpdesk asking them to copy you and get Sorry we're too busy and overloaded response.

And please make upgrades just a bit intelligent. If you add a new setting like "Enable selling downloadable products" just do a simple check to see if there are any files related to any products and if so, have the setting set to checked. Realize you're trying to limit the number of tabs, but you might consider just doing tab groups in a logical fashion version trying to disable some via settings that added silently.

Tony,

We are working on this task. So the question is - do you think that modified files and original files of older versions (i.e. previous upgrades) should be kept in CS-Cart. e.g. we are now at 4.3.4, do we need the ability to view changes of all modified files from 4.3.2 to 4.3.3 and diff of these files.

This is how it worked until the 4.3.1, I understand that this is nice feature, but I'm not sure if it really useful and required by someone.
