A small request to forum members. (New & Old)

Hi Everyone,

I’ld like to request that users create new threads when asking questions within the forums. Questions or comments that are not based on the original post should be created as a new topic for the benefits of others.

Reason

#1 It’s not possible to ask a user to search for “page_title_text” and expect them to view related results if somone’s posted under “Thickbox Mod RC2” and vice versa.

#2 It keeps threads straight and concise for the benefits of all forum participants.

#3 It will assist in keeping more experienced problem solvers posting solutions to your queries if the post is labelled as such.

(I’m not going to comment on copyright removal in a shipping thread. End)

#4 It saves a sh*tload of time for the senior members. We also run stores so at the end of the day your getting freebies for community.

Small Rules that could help YOU

#1 It’s an obvious question and you say to yourself “I know that” then post the answer. There is nothing more idiotic then having someone say ‘oh I knew that’ however waiting for someone else to answer the question before posting. Sure, just about every new member want’s to know how to change the title text. Make it obvious for them first, if they’re asking extremely obvious question… send them the search link

#2 Don’t Hijack someone else’s thread. This means posting irrelevant content, comments and views that do not match the original post.

#3 If your planning to make a commercial offer please at least make it obvious. I’ve been contacted by a few members via email stipulating their frustration at certain members due to the what they believe to be sheerly corporate offers. While commercial advertising is allowed within the forums, PLEASE make it obvious. We all know how much we hate people mis-representing themselves.

#4 Don’t PM senior members just because we’ve live on the forums. Ask your question out loud. (See #1) so that other members can assist you.

#5 Asking repeated questions such as "When is version x.x.x going to be out… Make a thread for it. Attempting to spam the forum in such questions does nothing for me, or most people here. Sure it’s in goodwill (Though I don’t think CS-Cart programmers like it ;)) but it’s irriating if you spend 15 minutes of spare time assist people who just want to know ‘are we there yet?’

#6 Don’t skimp through this thread by just looking at a few lines.

I’m trying to help me, help you.

#7 Because I know you didn’t read #6:

PLACE your CS-Cart Version number in your signature OR ELSE note it within the thread/post that you create.

There are people still using 1.3.0 this will get them a quicker response, replying 30 minutes worth of thinking only to realise the different version number is frustrating.

Jesse.

Very well put.

And just to reiterate… the Search button is your friend!

If we all kept to these guidelines I would hardly post new threads as I would find solutions to many of the problems I’m struggling with just by using search. And by the way, “Advanced Search” has reeeealy saved me many times. Recommended!

This forum needs to be Moderated properly, at the moment it is in a right mess, as a result i now spend only short periods of time on it, who’s job is it to keep this forum in some kind of order.

Well put JesseLeeStringer, i think you would be the right person for this job.

I was expecting to be nominated

I honestly don’t have enough time to look in non-related posts in threads asking for re-threaded posts as it’s a PITA and makes you look like an ar*ehole to say the least

I don’t post often but your purple avatar is always seen. I think you should be a moderator.

And I agree, people need to learn forum etiquettes just like email etiquettes

Ask and you shall receive!

Jesse is now a Moderator!

Thanks for the upgrade ET.

Now I’m off to find some rouges.

BTW: Anyone that would like to add rules to the list feel free to state what and why. Jesse

CS-Cart Version number in the signature for one, their are people still using 1.3.0 this will get them a quicker responce.

Yep i suggested that a long time ago.

Great list Jesse,

I’d like to reinforce #1 … if you want to receive help here, then commit to helping others that aren’t as far along in the process as you are. It is really counterproductive for building the “community” for newbies questions to go unanswered, it leaves a bad taste when you are ignored, plain and simple. I’m a big boy and realize my questions are complex and often long-winded, so I’m not offended if nobody knows the answers to my questions, but I too had my earliest pre-purchase questions ignored, which was really frustrating.

Personally I’d like to see a CS-Cart staffer monitor the “Why CS-Cart” forum, as it get so little attention it’s embarrassing. At the time of this posting, of 25 most recent questions in that forum, 10 are unanswered (11 until I answered one and it was 8 days old and I’d bet 60% or more of us knew the answer).

We’re all busy, I don’t have much time available either, but I’m going to try to answer 1 question (if I can) for every question I ask from now on. If we each did that this place would jump in value.

(sorry for my occasional abuse of #2, lol … never intentional, but always too late once I realize I’ve gone and done it again)

I agree… don’t post things like “that is easy to do” and then not actually give the answer… or tell someone to PM you in order to get the answer to something… because 90% of the time… if 1 person is looking for something, that usually means someone else is also…

Hmmm, i wonder if your talking about someone in particular,

I can answer both yes and no to that… yes, someone specific reminded me to post this… but no, I’ve seen several people do the “same thing” on other threads, on other occassions too numerous to count

And if you do find out how to solve a problem on your own, take the time to share with others on here. I make this a habit on all forums I am a member of. It only takes a minute or two of your time to update a post but can save a person with a similar problem hours of trouble.

I know this isn’t related to the original post but … j/k
