Page Title Tag Best Practice For Google

I came across this interesting post (dated Jan 15, 2015) on how Google in 2015 deals with Page Title's.

I'm posting it here so that perhaps others may also learn from it.

What I personally found most interesting is point 14;

Also bear in mind, in 2015, the html title element you choose for your page, may not be what Google chooses to include in your SERP snippet. The search snippet title and description is very much QUERY dependant these days. Google often chooses what it thinks is the most relevant title for your search snippet, and it can use information from your page, or in links to that page, to create a very different SERP snippet title.

Cheers,

Olof

Dear Olof,

Even in 2009 the Google has its own view on meta information.

Check this note Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

It is not about the titles, but the specialist is explaining Google's logic refer to the meta information.

It doesn't mean that you shouldn't think about html titles, keywords or descriptions.

Google will just check if it is true. If your html title is the best name for the webpage, Google will use it.

Yes, in laymans terms it basicall means Google does not want to send people looking for red socks to your page title if most of the page talks about blue sock so it checks many thing among them

Page title Red socks

Image alt name Red socks

Description contain red sock

and seo name red socks

Meta descriotion red socks

these are just a few but the bascs, and also keep away from stuffing the page with those words too manhy times

Thanks for reply. I was aware about Meta Tags no longer being relevant since 2009.

But what is new (for me at least…) is that now the Title is no longer automatically being shown in SERP.

regards

Olof

This is due to Google now choosing where the relevance lies in your site, not just relying on titles but the whole picture of description, alt tags etc etc
