Same Shipping Charges For All Locations

Hi,

I had to create multiple locations (12) in order to handle sales tax for the state of New York. I have 4 shipping methods created that have to use the manual method for rates. I also need these methods to be taxed. I had set up shipping for the location USA but whenever New York is selected it tells me that shipping options are not available for this area. Do I need to create shipping costs for each tax location I created? If so, can't I just apply the costs I set up for USA to all locations?

Thanks,

Stan

Stan, please check the following articles

Hi,

Well I have been through those articles, that is how I have gotten this far so I am afraid just telling me to review those articles again won't help much. I assume from what you said I must be missing something so any more help you could provide to head me in the right direction would be great. But from going over those before it looks like I need to create charges for each location. I am hoping I don't have to manually duplicate the information for each location.

Thanks,

Stan

A user's location can only be resolved to a single cs-cart Location. So if you have things setup for USA/NY/NYC then you need a specific shipping setting for that location. It is awkward when Taxes and Shipping both use the same Location info. But it does work when setup properly.

Thanks for the response.

So because I had to create a bunch of locations to accommodate the variety of tax regions, I have to set up a shipping method for each region? I do have a region called USA that has all the states in it but that doesn't seem to cover it.

Just to clarify, I had to create 12 locations, 1 for each tax region located in New York. I also set up a location for USA that has all the states including New York. I created manual shipping methods and added costs under the location USA. If someone checks out and it is a match for one of those tax regions shipping does not show even though it is still New York. It seems I have to add shipping costs for for each of those tax locations to get shipping to work. Is that correct? If so is there a way to have all locations use the costs I created for the USA location? Or is there a way to copy the information so I do not have to enter all the costs for each region.

I hope this is clear enough. Thank you all for your help!

Stan

Yes, you are correct. Think of it as it trying to find the “most specific” location and when it finds it, it uses the tax/shipping info for that location. Hence anything in your 12 needs to have both tax and shipping info if you want that applied. If you don't have shipping info, then it's going to say “there is no shipping for this location”.

No, you don't have to set up separate shipping methods for each location. I have about 10 locations/states that I have to collect tax for and I only have 4 shipping methods set up (FedEx ground, FedEx 2nd day, FedEx 1day, Free shipping)

Shipping is difficult to set up when there are so many parameters to configure so it is difficult to tell you exactly what you need to do or not. Posting images of your shipping setup may help. It sounds to me like you do not have your locations set up correctly?

I am having a similar problem with my shipping settings (although not as complicated as stanhook). I cannot get past the error, “Sorry, it seems that we have no shipping options available for your location…” Yet I have I Shipping Enabled, a Custom Shipping Method created and I have tried several different versions of Locations.

I am attempting a test checkout in the state of Alabama. Can someone tell me exactly what should be added on the Editing Location: Alabama page to make this work?

To complicate things more for myself, I am running Multi-vendor so if this is tough for me to setup, my vendors will be even more confused.

Any help or nudge in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

I wasn't talking about “shipping methods”, I was talking about “shipping rates” related to Locations. Sorry if I confused anyone.

@showstuff - take Alabama out of the USA Location and crreate it as a separate Location and put your shipping rates in that location.

It used to be (and may still be) that if there were 2 resolutions for Alabama, that it would see that as a conflict and say it can't find the shipping option for that location. But possible they've fixed this and just use the most specific location.

Thanks @tbirnseth for the reply. Unfortunately, I still cannot get around that error.

I disabled ALL my locations except for the Alabama (which has United States as the only Country and United States:Alabama as the only State) and I continue to get the error. My test customer has a valid Alabama address.

What am I missing?

Brief update. Just compared my shipping settings to the online MV demo and it works in the demo but not on my site. I may have bigger issues than just getting the right settings in place.

If anyone can think of something else I might have missed, it would be appreciated.

Thanks…

Hello ShowStuff,

  1. Go to the Administration > Shipping & Taxes > Shipping methods page of your CS-Cart admin panel.
  2. Click the Custom shipping method.
  3. Switch to the Shipping charges tab.
  4. Select the Alabama location in the Show rates for location section.
  5. Make sure that the shipping rates are set up properly.

    I hope this will help.

At first check if Alabama exists in any other location

Thanks for the replies.

@simtechdev - I set the values exactly as they are in the demo but still no luck.

@eComLabs - I deleted 'United States: Alabama' from my USA location so it would not be duplicated, but still no luck.

I have some support credits remaining during my upgrade process; hopefully the tech support team will be able to investigate and resolve.

Please let me know if you think of anything else.

Please provide us with the screenshot of the Alabama location settings

Sure, everything below the image was also left blank.

Please also make sure that no specific vendor is selected in the Vendor field in the General tab of your shipping method.

Hi,

@The Tool - I have attached sample location screen shot. I have a country (USA) State (NY) zips and cities filled out for each tax region. Addresses field is empty. The location for USA has countries (USA) and states filled out. For the drop down Shipping & Taxes > states and > countries I have all the US states and USA. I have the 12 tax rates created based on the same location name with the percentage and the rate depending on the Shipping Address.

I also added some shots of one shipping method.

There are multiple locations (obviously) but the rates are only set up for USA. I thought that would cover it. But it seems I need rates for each location even though USA covers everything.

Either tbirnseth is correct or I am hoping that I have something silly wrong, I have unfortunately set up things incorrectly and it is an easy fix or there is an easy way to copy the rates from one location to another.

Thanks for all your help!

@simtechdev - In my test site, the vendor setting lists as none. Still getting error. Could this be an installation error? (I doubt that since CS-Cart performed the install)

Simple solution that I missed - The shipping method was not activated in Vendors > Vendors.

Thanks everyone for the help.
