Dear CS-Cart and members of community,

We would like open discussion of CS-Cart developers rating on MarketPlace.

At this moment, rating of CS-Cart developers depends on amount of products which developer added to MarketPlace. We don't think this scheme is sensible.

That's why. If you take a look current list of developers, you will see WebSiteSkin in the top (after Simtech development surely).

We apologize before WebSiteSkin. It is just example to explain our view.

Lets investigate products of this company. If you go to company detailed page, you will see, that WebSiteSkin has 98 products for selling.

Lets continue and look products which WebSiteSkin offers:

Posted Image

As you can see there are templates for selling. Lets investigate 12 of top templates:

1. http://marketplace.c...cs3free001.html

Has not demo. We did not find link to demo on WebSiteSkin too.

2. http://marketplace.c...hirts-ruby.html

Posted Image

Great. There is demo: http://cs-cart4.websiteskin.com/

Main look-and-feel of demo is the same as on the product images, but banners don't match.

3. http://marketplace.c...-csfree001.html

Has not demo. We did not find link to demo on WebSiteSkin too.

4. http://marketplace.c...bags-ochre.html

There is demo: http://cs-cart4.websiteskin.com/

As you can see demo is the same as in point 2.

5. http://marketplace.c...ools-grass.html

There is demo: http://cs-cart4.websiteskin.com/

As you can see demo is the same as in point 2.

6. http://marketplace.c...ing-marine.html

There is demo: http://cs-cart4.websiteskin.com/

As you can see demo is the same as in point 2.

7. http://marketplace.c...ergie-rose.html

There is demo: http://www.cs-cart30...x.php?demo_skin[C]=cs300058-rose

This demo looks very similar as in point 2.

8. http://marketplace.c...e-cs300027.html

Has not demo. We did not find link to demo on WebSiteSkin too.

9. http://marketplace.c...parts-ruby.html

There is demo: http://cs-cart4.websiteskin.com/

As you can see demo is the same as in point 2.

10. http://marketplace.c...e-cs000005.html

Has not demo. We did not find link to demo on WebSiteSkin too.

11. http://marketplace.c...e-cs000007.html

Has not demo. We did not find link to demo on WebSiteSkin too.

12. http://marketplace.c...shoes-rose.html

There is demo: http://cs-cart4.websiteskin.com/

As you can see demo is the same as in point 2.

So, 12 products, 2 from them have diffrent demo. Another or has not demo or has the same demo.

Moreover, if you investigate each of templates, much of them can be designed 1-2 hours. Just find pictures and change colors a little.

We just wonder how CS-Cart checks products on MarketPlace, we think policy of checking must be a little changed.

In the final, we just would like offer consider system of developers rating defining or even system of accepting products to MarketPlace.

We afraid, if CS-Cart does not change it, MarketPlace will be just collection of useless modules without live demo.

It would seem that some sort of quality control should be in place, but probably CS-Cart team doesn't have time for such things.

I second this. Vender rating should be based on customer reviews!

Demos mean nothing. They are helpful in some enviornments but shouldn't be used as a criteria.
Rating should be based on customer response for quality, service, pricing (value) and support.
Number of products should have nothing to do with it.

Rating a developer based on the number of uploaded products? The rating system is not properly fair, this is why we stopped uploading our add-ons.

Yes, it is unfair. It seems, just the easiest variant and as kingsleypress told, CS-Cart has not enough time to check each developer.

May be our community will invent easy and fair variant of rating defining, then we will offer CS-Cart to do it?

We think it is really good idea to define rating by using reviews on MarketPlace. It is easy and fair. How do you think?

Hi Guys,

Please let me explain the current logic of rating calculation.

As you know, Marketplace has been launched not long ago. And the main idea was to publish as many add-ons & themes on the Marketplace as only possible. That was the reason of such "unfair" rating.

We are open for discussion. Please write your thoughts on what parameters should be taken into account and the weight of each. Even if we are talking about reviews - what reviews should we count: developer reviews/rating or add-ons reviews/rating, or both?

Please keep in mind that the main priorities are: happy customers, happy developers and a lot of add-ons & themes:)

P.S. In the near future we are planning to add filters by developer specialization, country/language

You could provide a way for customers who purchase to provide a rating in the marketplace that is based on quality, value and support.

You could provide a key when referring to a site that a developer could use to provide access in a link to a customer for them to provide a rating and/or a review. But this will complicate things to no end.

Trouble with just using reviews is that they are mostly solicited and are therefore mostly biased. I don't know of any developer who requests a dissatisfied customer to submit a review but I know many who followup and ask customers to provide feedback in both the forum and to provide reviews in the marketplace.

Personally, I think you should get rid of the rating all together and simply go as a search by category or type. Just make it a resource versus a shopping site.

Solution: developers should not need to be rated, only the things they sell should.

Dear Imac,

Thank you for your post.

We guess it must include both ratings. But, tbirnseth is right, developers asks leave good reviews. But, strongly dissatisfied customers could leave bad comment. It is not problem find place where they can leave comment.

Ideally solution, it is monitoring of all developers once per month for example. Check reaction of support, take into account rating (may include rating on forum), amount of products, but but this will complicate things to no end (tbirnseth is right again).

So, another easy solution, we can offer: take into account amount of products, reviews of developer and reviews of products, views of product (but it is necessary exclude ability artificial cheat), may be to use information from Forum such as amount of messages, how long time developer on the forum, on how often developer posts on forum (posts per day may be). Also, forum has reputation points, but we don't know how it is counted.

General thoughts about it.

It is great, but there is this page: http://marketplace.c...elopers-catalog do you offer remove it? If not then how developers will be located on it?

There's a lot more (in my experience) in working with a developer than the result. The process is many times more important to the customer than the result. For example, using cs-cart helpdesk usually has a satisfactory result But fot the vast majority of times, I can't wait the week to 10 days it takes to get a solution when there is one message a day exchanged.

This should be a resource site. You might want to identify the count of reviews for a compnay who is posting products/services and that could be a link to the review pages. But "ranking" of businesses will always be biased (just like it is now) and the goal of a "marketplace" is to be unbiased and a way for someone to determine what options they have for getting their needs met.
