Editing Certain Pages

Greetings friends,

I'm an experienced Shopify developer and I want to switch to CS-Cart for various reasons but I have one major problem; I'm not any familiar with how CS-Cart works and how to find my way around the 'engine'.

What I want to achieve is; simply to edit how certain pages are designed.

For example, without dealing with the layout blocks, I want to create a custom footer, directly via HTML. I don't want to deal with the Theme settings in the admin panel.

Can you please point me in the right direction on where to find certain pages like header, footer, product page and etc.?

I think you need to start by looking at http://docs.cs-cart.com/design-and-layout-dir you can achieve quite a lot without getting into changing templates.

Thank you for your response Alan,

I've seen the link you've shared but all topics on that page are marked “This article applies to CS-Cart versions: 3.0.X” on top, and since I'm planning on using v4, I've simply ignored them. Shall I not?

Also, I feel I'll be more comfortable giving the template a complete overhaul instead of trying to grab the idea behind blocks and stuff… Since I won't be making templates to sell, I don't care if my shop is not 'editable' in the admin panel but only directly from HTML.

Thank you in advance.

I personally have not bothered with learning to edit the template directly as using the layouts and blocks has filled all my needs.

Most of the articles in the link are still relevant to version 4. But there has been some improvement with the introduction of smarty

All that said I have done quite a lot of changes to my sites using hook and custom css in the themes without having to go much deeper, I just don't need the learning curve.
