Very dissatisfied customer

I’ve been trying to run CS cart for a few months now and it’s been nothing but a headache. It runs extremely slow and uses up so many resources. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed such as thumbnail generation and even the search feature is very weak on it. I can only hope that some major updates come out while I still have my download period. I can’t remember if it’s a year or unlimited, until then i’m going back to OsCommerce.

Who is your host? I would guess your running on some shared host with alot of clients on the box?

What about thumbnail generation dont you like?

You get free updates for the life of your license.

i have my own box. i also tried startlogic and it wasnt good there either. For the money I wish I tried X-Cart. I think that was actually programmed out of the box, rather than some people using smarty php to throw together a shopping cart.

if your cart is running slow you either have a shared host or you don’t know how to setup your ded. box, I have multiple sites running on shared hosts with no problems…

When you import products into your shopping cart, you can’t use the same image name for multiple products. It just uses the first product and then all the rest come out no image.

This box is setup right. CS is just a pig.

Dont visit here much at the moment, busy n all that…

But Ive got to say… ‘ryans’ post speaks the truth…

CS Cart is very bulky and server heavy.

I run it on my own linux server along with kayako e-support

Kayako can manage my emails (approx 4 years worth stored) with no performance issues whatsoever, however CS Cart really is eating the resources.

It doesnt take much to bring CS cart to a standstill, ive first hand experience at this, whilst I was undergoing a range of dos attacks on my server (planned and unplanned) CS Stood still and refused to load, whereas kayako still managed work with slight performance loss.

Note : Kayako - 4 years of emails ( a hell of a big dbase )

Radio Code System - over 36 million records (another HUGE database)

CS about 1000 products pages… (small in comparison)

CS Now has far too much code in the template files, making the initial use of smarty now almost redundant, theres just as much to edit in template files upon upgrading etc as there is in php, this shouldnt be the case if your using smarty as a template engine…

ON THAT NOTE !!!

OS Commerce is certainly no better and for anybody serious about making money… shouldnt even be an option !

My 4euro’s 23cents and 1pence

What do you suggest for optimization. Please enlighten me.

Is that with 10 visitors per day?

I know for a fact CS-Cart is having trouble handling high load. Whereas other scripts on the same server works fine.

Ryan is right. The performance is lacking.

I know osccomerce isn’t a great solution but at least it’s a good bandaid until I find something for a replacement…or maybe they’ll listen to us, hire some real programmers and release a product that’s worth the $150 we spent.

Dont get me wrong…

I chose CS because it has features no other cart has… and after trying almost all (for under $1000) and not hosted… I couldnt find anything else worthy of using…

but… I would change tommorow if a clean coded xhtml cart came onto the market which had a few nice features (even if they cost me more)

I just dont like OSC atall… admin is painful to use amongst other things.

CS Really need to sort out their system requirements though…

I dare somebody to say its my server setup… I dare ya !

Your front page took 8 seconds to load from start to finish. then i click on speakers took 6 seconds.

Uh I think i killed your sever…it’s not responding now… :frowning:

I guess Ill post my 2 cents.

CS surely isn’t perfect and there will always be users who just love to rant adn rave, for the sake of hearing themselves talk. It’s happened on every ecom forum ive been involved in.

You mentioned Xcart, the funny thing is, if you were to go to X and mention CS you would get banned, DONE. all forum access denied. So while you may “think” X is better, Im user number 350(ish) on Xcart, been there from the beginning. when you really look at the whole picture. its speaks for itself.

NO ecom platform is the end all be all perfect, its software, made by people… The difference between X and CS, is that CS lets us talk about other products and what works and doesnt, and also listens to us. So like when we all shouted for a 1 page checkout, guess who took the time to listen and work on it? NOT X-Cart.

If some of you wanna go thru and help performance test queries and do that stuff, let me know, ill throw in my help to make this cart better.

Ive tried all the rest…

Back on topic…

Thread is back open, KEEP IT on topic.

Yes Sir!

Thing about us computer maniacs is, one day we’re satisfied and all googly-eyed and the next we’re looking for something new. Too much time on our hands I expect.

If you want a pretty good idea on how long your site takes to load, go on over to sitereportcard.com. To say this site takes 8 seconds or that site takes 30 seconds doesn’t really mean much IMHO because many factors add to the mix like whether your images are optimized and how much JS is loading. Individual server loads play a part as well. I dare say you could cut 5 to 10 seconds off your load time with just a minimum of work. If you’re optimized for a 56k modem (and there are plenty of them out there) I’d say you are in damn good shape.

Speed test results:

URL: http://backissues.gatefold.com

Measured Speed (using 10 mbps T3 connection): 3.44 sec

seems pretty good to me (i am of course looking forward to less tables, etc…)

but I do think the server has a lot to do with it. My server currently has 200+ domains on it, the store is a “hobby”

:stuck_out_tongue:

Measured Speed (using 56k modem connection): 3.03 sec
