Please explain MultiVendor payout process

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased the CS Cart MultiVendor license and I'm in the process of setting up my website. I have read a couple of older threads about automatic vendor payouts, but I'm still confused on what the exact process is. I'd appreciate if you guys can help me clarify.

For example, my website will be made up of many vendors (possibly thousands) each selling multiple items. I will most likely use Paypal Pro as my payment gateway. Ideally, when a customer gets to the checkout cart, they will only have to go through 1 payment process even though they have items from multiple vendors (unlike Etsy). What happens after that? I have read that all the money goes into the Root Administrator's account. Is it then it my job to figure out what the vendor is owed (minus my commission)? If so, I have to transfer that money to them via Paypal Pro? What if they don't have Paypal Pro (don't want to pay $30/month)? Can I deposit directly to their business' bank account?

On the flipside, I've read a thread that referred to a new Automatic Vendor Payout. It sounded like an Etsy-type checkout cart where you have to go through the payment process multiple times (for each separate vendor). With this process the payments go directly to the Vendor's account? If so, how do I collect my commission? Is it my job to keep track of each vendor's sale and hound them for my cut?

Do you think there will ever be a checkout process that combines the best of both options? For example, you have a cart with items from multiple vendors, but you only make one payment. The money is then transferred to each individual vendor's account (minus the commission which is automatically transferred to the root administrator's account). That would be ideal.

I look forward to this discussion. Thanks everyone!!

Bump.

I'd really appreciate some clarification on this. Thanks!

I read somewhere that within the 4.x release life cycle that Automated Vendor Payment was going to be made a priority. I can't recall exactly where I read it (http://blog.cs-cart.com/).

My team and I are working with Stripe Connect to build a Multi-Vendor passthrough for Stripe that will accept the customer's payment info at checkout and process payments to the individual vendors accounts and pay a commission to the shop owner's Stripe account without the need for manual intervention.

That sounds excellent. Is there a monthly fee associated with a shop owner having a Stripe account? Please keep me informed as the solution you are working on is exactly what I'll need. Thanks!

hello,

you can check http://marketplace.cs-cart.com/add-ons/site-management/stripe-connect-payment-gateway.html?sl=en

for stripe connect.

If you do not want your customers to be redirected on the Stripe side, we offer alternative solution:

@Scottymoll

You are not the only one with this problem. For me, I just don't understand how this is not a built in part of CS-Cart Multivendor. It's like paying the vendors was a complete afterthought.

I will tell you that PalPal Pro WILL NOT WORK. I applied for PPP and they explained that "marketplaces" are to high of a liability due to the fact that the root store holds payments and pays out the vendors. PayPal denied my application specifically because my store is a marketplace.

This is why I decided to go with Stripe Connect as it is built specifically for marketplaces. However, there is no "go-to" solution for making this work. I have sent an email to eComLabs for clarification as they seem to have the best solution. I am awaiting their response.

I want to believe that this is THE solution for Stripe Connect. But I don't see anyone verifying that this has worked for them. Please contact me and I will happily pay the $90 for the addon, and I will also happily pay more for help getting it all setup.

We have about 10 installations already. We will answer on your questions soon.

Hi,

Stripe connect. What kind of payment options are there? Like iDEAL also?

Please take a look:

How are charge backs and refunds handled with this module? My concern is the liability as the marketplace owner. What is the customer files a chargback, and the vendor refuses to refund.. then the store owner is liable for the amount.. What is the best way to limit the liability and allow vendors to be paid direct.

I'am afraid, vendor can only issue a refund, but not refuse it.

Just for people's information.... We looked into doing a module related to this. What we found is that it is against the CC processor (First data, Mastercard, Visa, Amex, Discover, etc.) rules to apply 1 CC transaction to more than one recipient account. That's why Simtech's Braintree payment method requires the customer to enter CC info for every vendor in the order. Stripe will do this but it's actually a secondary process to distribute funds from the merchant's account to vendors. Most even shy away from drop-shipping.

We were going to implement this using either PayPal Mass Pay or Dwolla. Dwolla was kind of a mess to work with and PayPal Mass Pay has some goofy restrictions related to currency. Hence we never productized it.

What we had done (assuming a provider that can distribute funds) was to implement a queue where a delay could be set by vendor. This simulated an Escrow Account. So once a vendor marked an order as Complete (shipped), an entry would be made in the queue to defer sending them money until their number of days expired (default was 10 but setable by Vendor). This helped ensure that the customer would receive the goods before the vendor is paid.

Almost all solutions we looked at (other than Dwolla) required a vendor to initiate any refund or chargeback to the merchant. But since Dwolla works on someone's bank account, most vendors are not very interesting in giving a merchant the ability to credit and debit their bank account.

So the real issues are both cs-cart and the various providers. Trying to find a solution that provides the appropriate functionality that supports multiple currencies as well as distribution/reclamation of funds is difficult. Note too that almost all want transaction fees for distribution of funds beyond the original merchant account transaction. Generally these were about $0.25 per transfer.

Hi- Did you end up using paypal? If so has the experience been smooth? I am surprised that this is an issue that doesn't seem to be important to CSCart even though its totally a necessity for MV. This whole figure out as you go experience is insane!

Amounts are calculated in cs-cart, but the actual payment is a function of the chosen payment provider. It's not really something they can control.

The industry (credit card industry) doesn't like MVE (shopping mall) type environments due to high levels of chargebacks and difficulty identifying the responsible party. Many merchant account providers won't touch an MVE environment. The issue is funds being collected by one entity who is not responsible for the fulfillment of the purchase. Think you'll find that the big-guys (Amazon, Ebay, etc.) are all self managed and deal directly with the CC providers or FirstData instead.
