The problem:
Let's face it, the reviews addon for Cscart needs help. I have been in plenty of UX studies where buyers consistently say that reviews are one of the most important things they need to see before purchasing something online (zmot proves this too). Inspired by the possibility of yotpo, but realizing their shortcomings with the cscart version (total afterthought) and the fact that ownership of YOUR reviews is shared between you and yotpo, I think with a few interested and talented peeps, we could do better and I mean like Chuck Norris better!
The Pitch:
Let's work together and build something really robust and… free. (OMG!) The idea is that we build something that is similar to Yotpo but better for Cscart stores, self contained, self-owned (content-wise) and then share it for free for all users. Or at the very least, we could just share it amongst us contributors.

Thank you so much for starting this post. I totally agree the reviews addon of CS-cart is shabby. I would like to suggest a few features:
- allow customers to share photos of their purchase when they write reviews (this would be very valuable for shop owners)
- allow customers to vote for most helpful reviews, and sort by most helpful reviews on the front
- allow customers to share photos on facebook/twitter
- allow admin to reply to reviews
- allow customers to communicate with reviewer in the thread
- show all the reviews on a page
- show reviews in a block
- show category specific reviews on category page
that's all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks for the input and I agree with your assessment. We definitely need reputation management and I love the photo share idea. So far, no interest from devs but not surprising. We may end up building this ourselves. If so, I'll let you know if we decide to license the final code.

I actually work in the ratings and reviews world in my day job so if you want, I am willing to share my requirements and knowledge to get it right in exchange for access to beta and a full version. I can also provide the UI for the front end UX as well.

I am interested in seeing your progress. How would this be different from Alt-Team's Review Add-on? Just curious to know the differences.
I think that one of the most important functions of a reviews addon is that it sends follow up emails to customers, which allows them to post a review from within the email.

I second this, with the option of including incentives in the review request email. EG. Issue reward points, gift certificates or coupon codes, etc.

Do you have an update for the development of this?
For the email followup (you can put whatever link you want in it), our Auto Mailer addon was designed to do just this. The sample template actually is a link to the product detail page for the customer to create the review. All you would have to do is change link url if you're using a different URL.
Trouble with bundling that into the review addon is that you then loose flexibility for doing general things like sending them coupons, offering other promotions, etc. Those marketing techniques are outside of the reveiw process. If you add it in then the addon gets bloated and it's a never ending saga of “add this”, “add that”… Addons are best done to address specific functionality.

is it a good idea to put a ton of review over the description ?

I'm interested in the project, as a CS-Cart developer. In my opinion extending the default Reviews and Ratings add-on is not an option. It can be developed as a standalone Add-on from scratch.
For my further projects, I have to create an add-on for this, and if the community help me, I will create this add-on for free and open source. Now, I have only small modifications for free (drahosistvan (Istvan Drahos) · GitHub).
