Category Images v4.0.1
Posted 08 July 2013 - 02:30 PM #1
I'm adding categories into a v4.0.1 store and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to add images to my categories.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Brandon

No, I don't. I think category images, like product images and the add to cart button, are completely irrelevant for an online store and should definitely be removed. Please note this is sarcasm and not yet another feature request.Do you think the Catalog with images feature is really important for the stores?

The subcategory images are one thing that I've always loved making my store and any store have and now that the images aren't available, that pretty much sucks. I wonder if there is a way to add them back in? I can see the setting still exists under the thumbnails settings, so maybe it wouldn't be too hard.
Either way though, that completely sucks and is actually something that might prevent me from building any stores with v4.
Thanks,
Brandon

Not ideal, but a workaround?

I think I found it. Why would CS-Cart comment this function out completely and not just add another functional option in the admin appearance settings?!I haven't looked at v4 yet, but what about html code in description to add img tag?
Not ideal, but a workaround?
Anyway....
/design/backend/templates/views/categories/update.tpl
Look for the following line and remove the comment delimiters below it:-
Uncomment the section below to enable uploading of category images
Eugh, V4 coding standards are horrible.

Really? The adoption of the PSR coding standard is one of the principle reasons I changed to from my previous cart to CubeCart 4.

Just to let you know though, the image thing didn't show up right away. I tried using the clear cache link in the admin and also the ?cc way of doing it and it still didn't show. I ended up having to delete the files/folders using FTP to make it show up.
Funny how CS-Cart commented that section out. It just makes no sense to me. If a person doesn't want an image, than they can just not put an image in there. Why in the World would they comment out that functionality, I have no clue.
Thanks,
Brandon

Did you remove the appropriate slashes and asterisks? Have you tried to clear the site cache after saving the changes? You might also need to clear the cache manually (ie. via FTP)I uncommented that section, but still can't see the image upload function. What I do wrong?

"our engineers decided to cut it off because of the memory consuming issue"
"I am so sorry that you are dissatisfied with the latest CS-Cart release. As developers, we are mostly and primarily interested in constant improvement of our product. Our main goal is to make CS-Cart better with every release: both architecture-wise and visually.
In the face of choice between keeping backward compatibility and improving the product, we will rather choose the latter. In modern world, technologies are fast to change, and sometimes you have to leave some things behind in order to keep in pace with time.
We, in the CS-Cart development team, believe that this is the only way to keep CS-Cart evolving and progressive software for the modern world."
I have to admit how removing a feature that I'm sure many of us use can be considered "constant improvement" or "make CS-Cart better with every release". I have to ask myself why did we buy three V4 licences other than we already had a V2 site and assumed V4 would be progress!!

I am also trying to add the images to category pages. This is in Ver 4 of Ultimate. I would appreciate it if someone would clarify the template (s) to enable this functionality as I am unclear from the discussion above. I have tried enabling
<!--<category_products_{$block.block_id}-->
in the template at
/ templates / views / categories / view.tpl
Also cleared cache however no images showing.
Thanks Fran
