Magento vs Cs-cart

First of all, excuse me if there are two similar posts - I thought I submitted one, but I don’t see it in the forum

I have a small computer shop - want to offer productas as well as Custom Built configurations. Cs-cart and Magento both seem to offer these capabilities - What features makes CS-Cart worth the extra dollar investment over Magento?

I suggest that you attemp to use magento first.

I had issues with Magento just trying to do the basics. In honest opinion it wasn’t for me, and idealistically CS-Cart serves all my needs.

I tried Magento as well and it was way too complicated to do the simplest tasks like adding featured products to the home page was a 2+ hr task…

Hi friend, you can trust me, magento is the toy for ecommerce, they don’t know what is happening in ecommerce world and the best practices.

Besides, magento’s Custom Built configurations implementation is quite naive.

For CS-Cart, I can not say it is perfect, but for now, it is.

magento is slow … very slow for shared server , mangento team work to reduce sql request for the futur version.

the back end is not really usualy

structure really dificult to understand

if your project is for and big shop or multishop and if you have money and coders team why not

I think in 2 years mangento is good

honestly the more complete solucion e-commerce with good features and clean seo semantic is cs-cart ,if you have money buy good graphist for the template.

another sexy e-commerce solution is http://www.airvaecommerce.com/Std/

only for dedicado server and expensive license more than 1200$ , but not filtering product…

I’m not coder , not graphist , not programer but with 1 license and the forum community I relise this web www.mototropic.com and the shop have a realy good natural position in google for my product. one regret is the filter atribut only for cs-cart 2.0

lucky

Hi mototropic@gmail.com, who helps you customize the store? It looks so great!!!

http://www.airvaecommerce.com seems like a new…well…new toy, no offense.

Nice looking site, just this popup menu can get pretty annoying for frequent visitor

to become at the e-commerces solution:

http://flexcart.net/ is oudated ? =flexstore? or is the futur full features shopping script made y adobe?

Hi I have looked at using Magneto and gave up as it was far too complicated to configure and it was a bit resource hungry when it ran.

I have also looked at other carts, such as Cubecart, LIve Cart, Zen Cart etc and I’ve decide on CS cart as it appears to provide everything I need for my clients and can be configured quite easily to suit their design requirements.

If you choose to use Magento, make sure you have InnoDB support. Also, note you will need to probably have a dedicated server because now with InnoDB need the server requires more processing power and is slower.

I have neither. I am still researching but unfortunately for me Magento that I have used for a while, is really getting worse and worse. They may have a lot of support but it is getting way overcomplicated. The system is slow and doesn’t work as expected.

I’ve been registered with Magento since 2007 and have done a lot of work with the cart … but thinking that it was going to get better surely didn’t happen.

I just started playing with the Demo of CS-Cart and will be downloading the demo beta of CS Cart and it looks superb to me. I was going to go with Interspire but that just has a lot of stuff missing.

Since CS-Cart is in beta, I will be looking around for ideas that maybe they will build into for the Cart since it is in beta. That would be nice.

I followed the beta stage of Magento with great interest and in terms of features it is more like an enterprise solution. Unfortunately, due to it’s size, it is very slow and quite difficult to work with in terms of custom development.

I posted several complaints on their forum about the speed issue and got suggestions to improve it on my localhost installation but the front end was still taking 25 seconds to load and the back end was totally unusable. It took me about 3 minutes to change a product price.

Ultimately, you would have an ecommerce site that offers customers many features but no one would stick around to use them.

My advice would be to go with CS-Cart. You get nearly as many features but it is a lot faster, you have more choice of where to host it and it doesn’t require as much work to get your site looking how you want it.

your right , magento is limited for the moment fot dedicated server and consequent budget, I see in the futur road map of magento they want to put a new system name’ s “flat catalog”

to resolve speed probleme and allow user with shared server to use magento because 25 seconde to load page for one user is a probleme , imagine with 20 clients online…

in many e-comerce script compare page , cs-cart is not present because not opensource but for me is the most flexible and fullcharged script of the moment.

the only advantage of magento is the multistore and the attribut filter. but in the reality my client are lose in the magento backend.

cs-cart 2.0 have to possibility yo take the first place to offer for rx

1)atribut filter in the url and in the title to generate more automaticly more seo page with precise en pertinent resut.

2) more efficient system thumbnails for big picture for google bot pictures

3) price alert in many product detail page , the client recieve automaticly the new price if price change in backend.

4) data fedd at fly in xml for compare price platforme

5) quickview like gap.com

6) api to flex ,air ,papervision because in 2 years new script are based in rich commerce , and google work to crawl flash , fex ,air content.

magento is opensource but not for all , and many small addons are really expensive .

many million dollard $$$ budjet to offer system limited to 20% of client.

I sure cs-cart 2.0 have the possibility to take the first place with 1 year with intensive work

sorry for my horrible english

Yeah, really horrible. But your advices are quite good! Hope cs-cart will listen.

magento has a great concept and its a great start… it has a place for somethings… its one of the carts i have looked into recently and i like it very much. there are a handful of carts out there i mean less than 5 that all do what i really need and want… and yes miva was one of them… however miva is a defunct cart currently…but really had great 3rd party support at one time… extending beyond most out-of-the-box carts… back to magento it reminds me more of a cms in its design. It has a coherent design for both back-end and front considering its an open source project. I am going to play with this cart for a development i am working on. My biggest concern with most carts besides its extensible functionality is Speeed ,speed SPEED and more speed along with indexabilty and SE Freindlyness… i am SEO first and formost. And i think that all web developers should be… In regards to the later two, CS-cart has a lot of work to do… as does magento… Cs-cart seems much more tightly integrated to me than any opensource project and yet so customizable. The biggest drawback I have with cs-cart is sspppeeeeeeeed - way too many http requests… though i am working some sprites for my templates. and i am working on doing a realy nice css template basic layout… with those two adjustments and using static pages when necesssary(on a shared host) i can see overcomming the biggest two limitations i have with cs-cart- but, once i turn that corner, i cant see anything else that can do all cs-cart and do it as tightly integrated… I am still working on SEO for this cart before i convert all my stores to it… but the only other carts i am using at the moment is magento and miva. I am currently using one more that i wont disclose at this time - as i think its a stellar cart - but far from perfect - doesnt quite have all the functionality and tight integration as cs-cart but smokes everything else i know as far as SE friendly, Speed, caching system and compression while still capable of html static pages but implements them better than anything else i have ever used - and there are again less than 5 carts capable of this that i am aware of… so the verdict and jury is still out . i will update here if i get a head up with this cart on my competitor… - though, again i cant use it for all my stores because of limited functionality - but if all goes well - i would like to see if we can get some of its speed and seo ability into cs-cart. - Anyhow, I think magento is a nice cart especially for open source and blows away lots of paid carts. But, it not in the class of cs-cart…

I’ve used both Magento and Cs-Cart. Magento was a challenge to develop custom theme because you need to retain their class and id names in the html or all functionality breaks. That is really poor design imho. And their template system is overly complex. Also, it is ridiculously complicated in the backend.

The only reason we used Magento was because a customer can provide multiple shipping locations for each product in the order. Cs-Cart dev team would have built this for us and I should have done it. The extra time setting up and customizing Magento was more than double the cost of the CS-Cart mod.

And, CS-Cart support is much better too!

cs-cart is paid and magento is not… you never expect the same options… they did many things for serious sellers to pay for it… Never compare them

  2. code too complicated real need 1 team of developers have specialized knowledge

So, sometimes free Open Source means:

1 - Very expensive, because you need to hire a “Dream Team” of programmers to be able to manage your free Open Source cart

    2 - Hard to understand

    3 - Heavy and slow

CS-Cart is easy to understand. You can use it you alone, even if you do not have a “Dream Team” of programmers.

The last, but not the least, CS-Cart is much lighter and faster than Magento, no need to have 28 processors to powered it!
