Force Shipping by Category or Product

Is there an easy way to force one shipping method over another by product or product category? We sell some items that are considered “hazardous” and need to be shipped ground and it is a constant struggle to try and get the buyer to select the correct shipping method.

I have the same problem. There's never been a way to configure this. It's a deficiency in the software.

I use real time shipping rates and would like to ship some items via UPS or Fedex only. There's no option for this at the product level or in the shipping method. The Shipping Properties tab for the product is deficient. There's no flag for hazardous, insurance required, signature required, freight only, or specific carrier selection.

Seems like a fundamentally simple add. Just add the list of shipping methods to the shipping properties tab of each product and let us select which are available or not.

Assuming a simple add-on working as DSI described…

How would you like to handle orders for multiple products?

Allow only shipping methods common (enabled) for all products on the order?

If you need to support different shipping methods for different products then it's more complicated.

Good point. For me, it probably is that simple. Its all about ammo. We can only ship UPS ground for that so if there is any ammo in the order, it would automatically allow only ground.

I agree. One product in the cart with a shipping restriction, restricts the whole order.

If I sell a hazardous item, then all other items in the order are going to be included in that shipment.

I would pay for this addon.

We've built this several times, most recently here - http://www.cascadestoneworks.com.

…however… it isn't as simple as an add-on (which attempts to be one size fits all) … it is a custom modification so the checkout process performs a number of checks against the product's attributes - then compares them to the shipping modules you have enabled.

In the above case, if you place products with shipping restrictions (like 2000lb fountain) along with some Fed Ex Freight it will run both quotes, change prices accordingly … but just show a single combined rate for the customer. We did this by category in the above example … but an individual product can also set these types of flags.
