One thing that I've noticed is that too many things are intricately tied together creating ridiculous problems that seem almost unsurmountable. For example, I am trying to change how the page title appears on pages.

GOAL:
http://www.onmarkint...rod_page-01.jpg

This is what I seem to be stuck with:
http://catalog.onmar...-72-p32005.html

For some reason the page title uses the same template and/or style as the subtitles in the page such as "Related products" and "Send to friend". Now, granted my difficulties are surely due to my lack of programing skills, but that's one reason I picked this software. The Smarty Template system is notorious for it's ability to separate the layout and operational programing. I guess I'm asking for help or maybe just ranting. I've spent so much time-$$$ trying to get this software to an acceptable point that I'm getting a little bitter. That, and now I'm having to deal with customers complaining about items disappearing from the cart.

Ugh!!!! $$$$$$ out the window >>>

CS Cart people! Get on this forum for a week and help us clean up some of this garbage. I mean...for the love of god; why am I have to try and figure out a way to show what manufacturer makes the darn product that I'm selling. You can browse manufacturers products via the sidebox but it seems to be top secret info anywhere else; I'm baffled as to why it's not on the product details page by default.

Sorry, I'm used to running a Vbulletin website that has been absolute gravy to style, mod, and maintain in comparison.

Fellow users, if you have something encouraging to tell me towards resolving some of my CS issues, or even something good about your site to boost my morale please share.
:(
I know just enough to be dangerous.

mhackl,

Don't worry, others feel your pain as well. The thing you have to realize is that there are tradeoffs with any software product. The more complexity built into the system usually goes hand in hand with rich features. I came back to CS from another cart that was extremely easy to tear apart and skin, but lacked features. The front end to CS is definitely ugly and a pain to deal with (Hi nested tables & includes!!), but it does make life easy if you wanted to change one thing in many places. If you check out the Smarty code, most files use "Capture" and then are passed to "mainbox.tpl" or "sidebox.tpl" (this is why you see the same style accross the site.

The thing you have to realize is that there is an investment in learning if you really want to tear apart the cart. Most users are happy to plunk in a default template and go. I'm waste deep in rewriting the front end to CS so I know where you're coming from, but you just have to go with it :)

Don't even get me started on the JS code and AJAX implementation. ;)
