Thought / Opinions / Critique?

Hi Everyone,

I've just finished upgrading our website from 2.0.15 to 3.0.3, I invite you to take a look and give me an idea of what it may need in future.

Site: Barn Light Electric | An American lighting manufacturer

Please do not place test orders, our sales department will pitchfork me!

Thanks,

J.

The graphical menu is very professional and attractive. I like the whole site and it is a pleasure to explore.

I noticed on Ceiling Lighting category it is missing something at the top (blank area).

Any reason why you have Quick View disabled?

Very nice site. Looks neat and professional

Looks very clean; good job.

I looked at a couple of products and noticed the Product Page Title consists of HTML markup (™) which doesn't render into the ® symbol (says R symbol in product title but TM markup in Page Title) as intended. Didn't want to link directly to the product as you have used a URL shortener in your OP.

Must admit I really like the effect you have on the icons next to the price on the product page, how did you achieve this if you don't mind me asking?

Dunno if this is a good thing or bad thing but as a Brit looking in, I reckon u have a great brand thing goin on there , cracker barrel ish, older but modern twist too, don’t see any improvement areas Needed In the site and think the customer upload images etc is a great idea to give more confidence to the smaller non trade customer

What no Facebook or twitter ? I thought we all had to die if we didn’t use social media… or so we are told :-)

I like it

John

Great Looking Site

How did you get the menu with images?

How did you disable the Quick View?

Awesome Site and Fast Too…!

Cheers :)

Those icons with pop up messages on the product detail page, is this an available addon or something you created? I really like to get something like that. Awesome looking site.

This looks very appealing and modern. At times I do get lost in the menu or find that there is too much scrolling on product pages with many images and a lot of text. Product names sometimes are too long for human users. Great for SEO though.

But all in all a good website.

Hi Adrian,

We fixed that after a lot of fiddling around, we couldn’t decide upon the product hence the missing area for the moment.

Quick View is disabled as it doesn’t support our business model, we have different options, different finishes, mounting a host of other elements which are not fully supported in the quick view mode.

Additionally, “Quick View” is not an independant TPL so it’s display looks broken as I made changes to the product page display.

Work in progress, moving from CS-Cart 2.0.15 to 2.2.x and finally through to 3.x presented issues when rendering embedded symbols (not ®, but the literal ®) encoded in the database. Product titles were being truncated from that point further.

I opted to remove all relation of the trademark/registered symbols however Google Analytics relates products based upon product name solely, this becomes problematic for various reasons but foremost it skews our analytics.

See below about the icons :)

Thanks Jon,

Ironically our tag line is

[quote]```php
“Where Vintage & Modern Collide”

, quite literal by your statement but yes we do allow customers to add their own imagery to our site. I'm working on a module that will allow customers to create content FOR us, rather than us contacting the customer constantly for feedback.<br />
<br />
We now have Facebook/Twitter etc - I was originally 75% through publishing a very thorough Facebook addon (some clicks 'like', their friends get an advertisement with a coupon etc) but our Marketing department decided upon rushing the project so the current display was the end-result.<br />
<br />
It could have been better but sometimes it comes down to 'having' something vs the 'best' of something.<br />

We had Alt-Team develop the menu design on our behalf while adding additional functionality that CS-Cart does not natively provide in the menu.<br />
<br />
Quick View doesn't support our business model, further it's not an independant TPL.<br />

<br />
That was a custom modification I developed, rather detailed and not overly user-friendly as an addon. Simply added a few database tables and conditional logic to get it working as intended.<br />

The product names were intentionally long for more than just SEO, but I feel your pain.<br />
Due to our large product range we've needed to cut back from our previous category breakdown (25+ to 6) to accommodate newly developed products while maintaining relevance to the core categories. It's not overly simple but I'll provide our marketing team some feedback.

Here is some more. Hope it helps:

Homepage: simply awesome, slik, modern, professional. ON impression I would want to buy from this company. It looks trustworthy.

Your logo rocks.

navbar menu: Looks good. I especially like the product icons with links next to it. Slight minus is that main categories are not clickable. Some menu items have large amounts of text. This is confusing, because other items have many links. Its easy to confuse link listings and large texts.

The product displayed within the navigation menu is confusing. It distracts the customer from clicking where he/she needs to go.

category / product listing: looking great, except for long product names. I would really make all product images/thumbs the same size to prevent categories to becoem messy. Images, Product names, Prices should be aligned vertically to avoid chaos.

Layout option 2 looks good, but sharing buttons are too dominant. They are more in your face than the products themselves. You want your customers to click on the products, yet attention is mainly drawn to share buttons. I would improve on image display. Currently they are not centered. There are many images that need improvement.

Product page: The finish chart / features: When I click 'click to view' I get a page in a page with two scroll bars. This looks odd. There should be only one scroll bar. Its better to display the full popup with a scroll bar.

Blog: your blog does not look like the rest of your site. It seems as if I got forwarded to another website.
