CS-Cart Edition Changes

Hi!

Today we announce some future changes in CS-Cart product line.

Free Mode instead of Community Edition

CS-Cart Community edition will be discontinued starting from version 3.0.3. New Community licenses will not be issued. All existing license holders will be able to use the software according to the license agreement.

We will introduce the free mode for CS-Cart Ultimate — it will be possible to use it for free with functionality limitations identical to those in CS-Cart Community.

Professional and Ultimate Editions United

CS-Cart Professional and Ultimate are going be merged together into one united edition. It will probably keep the name “Ultimate”.

This edition will have the possibility to be used for free as described above. In order to unlock the paid features one will only have to enter a valid license number — no edition upgrade required!

This united edition will have multi-store functionality like CS-Cart Ultimate. It will be possible to get the software with any number of storefronts starting from 1 (so it will able to substitute CS-Cart Professional).

The changes are described in detail in our blog. Feel free to join the discussion in this thread and leave comments in the blog.

When do you think 3.0.3 will be available?

Never mind. Just saw other post. It's already available.

Is the free version already available?

And wil it be a 30 days Demo with full features still available?

If yes how will this be handled after the 30 days? Will it lockdown to free version automaticly?

Elimination of Pro is a bad idea.

I assume this means it will cost a minimum of $650 to buy into CS-Cart now if there isn't a Pro version. So I agree with you guys.

I don't think so . (hope not)

if you read careful the original post it will be like pro version and after that each extra licence will be paid extra.

In the blog I read this

Just wondering what the new price will be for Ultimate Edition. Are you going to keep it at the Professional price? That would be sweet.

Dear Peter,

I can not yet provide you with the price for the future “Ultimate” edition for it’s not been confirmed yet. Stay tuned to the blog, the cost will be announced later.

Agreed. Probably for different reasons.

In this case it would be unfair to people who paid pro to ultimate upgrade fee not so long ago.

sure but ultimate has 2 storefronts free in the same price, not one!

Okay, everyone lets “keep calm and carry on”.

I don't mind my liftime and ended upgrade pro license would be converted to ultimate one with lifetime second limited upgrade free of charge. I am surly not willing to cover ultimate fee for features and store fronts I have no plans to use now.

I would say lets wait and see.

Nevertheless Cs-Cart could come out with a final announce (including prices) instead of lettin customers and cs-cart fannatics guess…

Experience from the past is that “wait and see” becomes “wait and get a surprise”. The point of providing feedback BEFORE something occurs is that it might just get addressed. But if you wait till after then odds are you will get what's delivered.

Wonder how much $ I wasted this week buying an Ultimate pack with 4 storefronts as well as renewing annual subscription for 2 Professional stores.

I can understand that having 2 versions means extra maintenance and development. Granted the two aren't completely different, so it is not as if there are 2 individual programs being maintained. So, to eliminate your employee issues, you cut the development back to one program, yet it now costs double the original cost to buy-in? Can't see many current trial users buying in to CS-Cart now.

I agree that it's a shame to drop Pro. I was just about to buy a Pro license, but now it would seem like a bad idea. I only want a single storefront so the Ultimate price has put me right off, unless at some point they offer a 1 store ultimate licence at similar cost to Pro. I'll have to stick with Magento CE for now.

…waiting…a…week…has…gone…by…but…no…comments…from…CS.

I think the announcement of the version change was premature. Just enough information to provide controversy and not enough to fully explain the impact (users and add-on developers).

When I first saw the announcement, I thought the new version would be like what I had with Windows7 Home Version. Supposedly, the program also contained Professional. All I did was to purchase a pro Key to “unlock” the Pro functionality. This is what I thought CS-Cart was doing. One program, but functions would be available depending on the license purchased. Upgrade by purchasing an upgrade Key to unlock functionality.

This would make sense to me. I only wanted Pro, so I would just get Pro Functions in the software. If later, if I want Ultimate functionality, I would just by an upgrade key, but no software change would be needed.

Just wondering how every one else is interpreting this.

I am just waiting to get all the facts before jumping to conclusions.
