Quick Search / Searchanise in 3.0.1 Pro

So I know CS said that they wouldn't be supporting the Quick Search anymore and they would be going to Searchanise. While I feel this is pretty stupid and lame, I want to try and work with what is available.

With the Quick Search in 2.2.x, you could start typing your search and products would show up as you type. I don't see any way of making this happen with 3.0.1. Am I missing something here?

Also, when I go into Administration => Addons, I'm not seeing Searchanise as an available addon to install. I also don't see it in the package I downloaded from CS-Cart.

I usually keep up on the forum, but I must have missed a thread somewhere.

Can any of you guys help point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Brandon

You need to take the Quick Search addon from 2.2.4 to use in 3.x.

It can't be as simple as moving it over, is it? Have you tried?

Thanks,

Brandon

Nope. That is what CSC stated in one of the threads where everyone was complaining about Searchanise.

Ah, you had my hopes up.

Yep, I was part of that thread.

So have you gotten Searchanise to work on 3.0.1? Since the files aren't part of the package, I'd assume that means that CS-Cart hasn't released it yet?

Personally, I'm not liking the thought of my site connecting to another server just for my search. Maybe it would be worth looking into developing a new Quick Search addon. Kind of sucks, but I'd rather shell out a few bucks than be dependent on another connection. Plus, I don't like all my search data being out there. What my customers search for is my business and I personally don't want other people to have access to that information.

Could just be me though. Well… OK, I'm sure Clips will join me on that one too.

Thanks,

Brandon

I haven't done anything with 3.0.1 aside from just installing it but yes, I will be using the Quick Search when I get around to it. I don't imagine it would be that difficult…just go and get all the the Quick Search files from all of the addon folders.

Well, it sort of works.

I copied everything over from a 2.2.4 install. It gave me a parsing error when I installed it, but the addon does work. The styling isn't correct, but that can be changed.

The biggest thing I see is that the images don't show when doing the search.

I'd be willing to bet that Tony, Alt-Team, or Seonid could figure this thing out pretty easily.

I'd still like to see what CS actually does on their patch they will probably be releasing soon.

Thanks,

Brandon

We have already sounded out the Searchanise plan to some of our clients and as I expected, the feedback was not good. We have enough of a hard time convincing them that their data is safe with us (despite working with over 400 clients for the last 10 years) many of them have refused to allow us to hand over data to a 3rd party.

We will be sticking with the default on-site search on our version 3 stores but with the hope that one day the Quick search (which our clients and their customers love) will be back.

I know a few people had bashed the quick search but ot worked great for me, I am sorry to see it go if it is being replaced.

I am sure I saw somewhere that it was still gonna be included in V3…does anyone know if it is just waiting for the next relase?

John

We use the mod from shippingkit.com for search. I don't know if it works on 3 yet. I really have not tried it beyond looking at what CS has installed.

We have tried searchanise on a couple of our community carts and overall I am not very impressed. A few months ago it shut down our sites. They say it won't happen any more. The fact that it happened once is way too much.

I never did use the Quick Search that CS had. I didn't like how it functioned and the one from shippingkit seemed to work better for us.
