Hello.
Where is addon Quick Search in version 3 CS-Cart ?

Robert.

This add-on is deprecated, it will replaced with Searchanise in CS-Cart 3. Not only does it add search suggestions, but it also significantly speeds up search.

I thought Searchanise called out to a different server, right? What if I don't want my site to communicate with other server? What if I want it like it is?

Thanks,

Brandon

This is very concerning.

As an agency, we are accountable to our clients for all aspects of the website we provide including any 3rd party functionality.

A couple of months ago we spent 3 days telling customers that they did have a license for their website and that it was the CS-Cart license server that was having problems and that we had not just taken their money and given them a free shopping cart.

What guarantee do we have that the Searchanise server will not have problems?

Personally I would like the choice of which search we use as we have never had any issues with the current one. If we do have a problem we are able to explain to the client what the problem is and how soon we can fix it.

With Searchanise we will not have that option.

Tom,

I'd probably wait if it were me. Depending on how much your store is modified, this might be a bit of work for you. And, why do the work twice since 3 is so different than the current version.

About the Searchanise. I think this is a huge mistake. I really don't like the fact that my site will have to use a 3rd party thing like that for something that should be built into the cart.

Also, Twigmo started out free and now it is like$10 per month. How long until the same thing happens with Searchanise? Talk about a quick way to loose customers.

Thanks,

Brandon

I fully agree Brandon, and believe that if many of us established business owners are forced to use an outside 3rd party "search service", then 2.2.4 will be the end of the road for us. What my customers search for while visiting my site is my business, and knowone elses, there is no confusion there, and I do not in any way like the idea that data of our business customers search habits could be viewed by any outside organization for any reason. Nor will I rely on an outside service for the reliability of our site's operation. If I start to believe that I am loosing control over how I will run my business, then the decision to move on will be an easy decision to make. Sadly I chose CS-Cart because I viewed it as a professional level ecommerce platform to run our business on, however, with all of these 3rd party novelty trinkets, and out of touch business decisions being made, I am really starting to have second thoughts. :-(

I am so glad that it still looks like the Searchinise garbage is optional! I just wish they would not abandon other methods that work like Quick Search. I am sorry to say that CS seems to go backwards on functions sometimes. There is NO WAY I want to rely on a 3rd party site to do search (or to be my mobile site). That has gotten to be the most lame thing that CS is doing of late. I sure hope they wise up soon.

If CS really thinks thinks these things won't shut down itheir crazy servers or slow down my website then they have something big to learn. Shoot, with Twigmo alone you would have thought they learned. Last week I had the lame idea of putting "Google Language" on to one of our sites to convert the language. Then I found out that if someone was using a Windows XP with Firefox 12 that the Google Language will lock up their browser for a couple of minutes before it continues. Who knows when else it goofed up. So if Google can't get something to respond fast enough there is no way I want to rely on another 3rd party just to "search" my site or to provide mobile functions.
Regards,
Jim

I agree with you.
What's faster?
Performing a search on your server or waiting for an external server response?

Is searchanise heading to be a sort of google shopping?
If so, there will be some benefits to have your data indexed there, without the extra work to build a feed.
Also It could have a positive impact in term of keyword search, so you don't have to work extra entering keywords on your admin. Somebody could find your product in searchanise.

Anything that could improve your search engine exposure is welcome.

Besides, quick search, if I remember well, was first a free addon from an independent developer.
Someone could come up with one for CS3 in the future.

I think you could leave the choice between the Quick Search and Searchanise. Quick Search is a very good addon and would be welcome in version 3 CS-Cart.

The Quick search add-on is to be completely removed from CS-Cart 3. Searchanise is a far more efficient and versatile tool, that's why we put it in action in the first place.

If you want to continue using Quick search add-on in CS-Cart 3, you can take it from an older version and adapt it following the guide. Or you could use some help from our custom development department.

Another solution is to just continue using an older CS-Cart version, which includes Quick search.

search is a basic feature for a eshop.
And always i want to to have all the features in my server.
This is real reason to find alternatives for a eshop system. I really not understand why required to connect to another server for a so basic feature. The uptime and the speed of the server depend of the Searchanise server.
This is very bad.
Also the Searchanise server can know exactly all the search in my web site, this is not accepted from the most eshop policy.
My most customers have in the policy that no keep any data even for searching, with the new version i cant guarandee this.
Can you please also tell us if it is any other feature that need external servers?
The other resellers accept this change?
Thanks

For the record, I can confirm I shall cease all CS-Cart developments if such an integral store function such as the search becomes reliant on a 3rd party server or becomes a paid feature.

I would like to share some extra information on Searchanise.

First of all, Searchanise is an optional service, it is up to you whether to use it or not in your store. And it will never replace the default CS-Cart search functionality. Yes, we will no longer support the Quick Search add-on, as its functionality is duplicated in Searchanise where it will be provided for free to all CS-Cart users(the only limitation is a number of products, which must not exceed 100,000).

Secondly, the main purpose of Searchanise is to improve product search and make it as fast as possible no matter how many products you have in the inventory or how many customers visit your store daily.

Besides speed, Searchanise will provide advanced search features: fuzzy search, word forms(aka stemming), typo correction(did you mean? option).

Next, in addition to search requests, Searchanise processes all navigation requests(clicking on a category or a subcategory link) as well, which drastically reduces the load of the hosting server where CS-Cart is running. And our goal is to make it much much more cheaper to run a fast store with Searchanise rather than to use an expensive hosting to process high loads generated by search and navigation requests.

Keep watching our blog and forums for more details.

Is http://searchanise.com and its technology owned by cs-cart (Simbirsk Technologies)? It uses the same favicon and the only mention of it in Google is related to Cs-cart.

I too strongly disagree with this move, yeah its nice to have the option for using a 3rd party service to provide search results for people who may not be able to afford a half decent VPS or dedicated server, but saying that both VPS and Dedicated Servers are so cheap these days it shouldn't really be a problem.

I could see how this 3rd party service would be great for people on shared hosting, but another problem is that many shared hosting environments have cURL disabled (which I'm guessing is how the Searchanise works) which means they wouldn't be able to use Searchanise anyway.

With regards to the above quoted text about how Searchanise handles navigation requests, is this just for the search box? or will Searchanise handle the standard site navigation? because if thats what you mean't then again I strongly disagree with this move and sure hope you provide a fallback for people like myself who will not be using Searchanise.

Basically it feels to me like your trying to force/push people into using your new Searchanise service which for many reasons is the wrong thing todo, I've got no problem developing my own "Quick Search" module (which I am already doing as I'm integrating Solr for the faceted navigation and search) but when it was already part of CsCart for so long I don't feel like I should have to, In fact the Quick Search that was left in CS-Cart 3 RC5 or whatever version it was worked fine without any issues all it needed was a few css tweaks and that was all.

Can someone explain to my what all this hullabaloo is over Searchanise? I'm not asking sarcastically, I honestly want to know, I can't find information about how it works, enough to understand why everyone hates it so much? Can anyone point me to where there is information about it and explain why it is overwhelmingly opposed?

cheers

Thats the right way, let it an optional service!

Yes, we will no longer support the Quick Search add-on.

Thats fu....ing shit. STOP that outselling functions to 3rd party.

Whats the next?
- no Import/Export - you have to use our 3rd Service
- no Payment Gateway - you have to use our new PayService
- no MySQL support - you have to use our Cloud-Database?

because we know all better as you and our services are faster as yours, that's your answer?

That's the way you lose your customers !!!

After all i have read in this thread i'm happy that i don't preordered the v3!

Wow, so if we want to use something other than your "Searchanise" you basically say, "sorry about our luck". You do have an interesting reply! If you tell us we can "adapt" the old one in to the new, then why don't you just do it?

I guess we could say another option is just to switch to another shopping cart as it appears that CS is getting to big for it's own good and no longer wants to listen to it's customers? I'm not saying this is the fact, but wow, it sure sounds like it.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your warm interest in Searchanise! I'm sure you you will love it as soon as it is released officially and all features are revealed. Searchanise will make product search in your store better and more relevant and that will be constantly improved by our engineers.

Is http://searchanise.com and its technology owned by cs-cart (Simbirsk Technologies)? It uses the same favicon and the only mention of it in Google is related to Cs-cart.

Yes, Searchanise is being developed and owned by Simbirsk technologies, company behind CS-Cart.

Wow, so if we want to use something other than your "Searchanise" you basically say, "sorry about our luck". You do have an interesting reply! If you tell us we can "adapt" the old one in to the new, then why don't you just do it?

No, this is not a correct assumption. You can customize your CS-Cart as you wish, CS-Cart code is open, and you can adapt the Quick Search add-on from version 2.x to 3.x if you wish or use some third party solution - that's up to you. Searchanise is just to provide you with the same(actually with much more) functionality but via a different technological approach.

As for why we do not continue the Quick Search anymore - we just do not want to duplicate functionalities.

Indeed, there is not too much information about Searchanise yet, because it is still in beta. Actually there are more than 100 live store already connected to Searchanise for several months. One of them have more than 3,000,000(yes, 3 million) items and it works very well and fast.

We plan to publish the detailed description and overview of Searchanise within 1-1.5 months after CS-Cart 3.0 is released.
Sincerely yours,

Is Searchanise going to be free for life? Or will it be like Twigmo?

Sorry this is kinda off-topic but I need to plan if I'll implement it for CS3. I'll avoid using it if you'll start charging for it in the future
