Shipping and Google Checkout

Hi -

I'm relatively new with CS-Cart, and have what might be a basic question.

I've got it set up to work with FedEx realtime - which is working within the cart. I'm also using Google checkout as my payment service.

When I add an item, it shows the price, and it obtains the shipping amount. When I launch to Google checkout, however, it shows the shipping price as $0 for that shipping method.

Is there something I'm missing in the equation here? A “pass shipping cost to google” type toggle? Or is there something else wrong?

Thanks in advance!

What is wrong is the fact that Google Checkout just does not work well. It doesn't have anything to do with CS-Cart. On the shipping they have a 2 second rule that if Fedex (or whoever) and your site do not respond back within 2 seconds they don't charge shipping. There were some type of settings within CS where you can put in back up pricing, but then you still loose on some orders because it is not a calculate amount. We ended up turning off the Google Checkout on most of our sites. Then Google decided out of know where to shut down our account and Google Checkout no longer worked at all. I sure hope you have a real payment processor and you are not relying to heavily on Google. Since they feel they are a god, they will cut you off with no warning, no explanation, for no reason.

Thanks for the input. Actually I'm developing this for a client - and we're still in the “starting” phase where I can change to whatever works.

So - basically it looks like either authorize.net or paypal. Paypal's signup is easier/quicker. Do you know if they have the same types of issues - or it more reliable?

We use both authorize.net and Paypal. Authorize.net is absolutly awesome. Paypal we use because we have to. It works fine, but just not a preferred method of ours. Google Checkout was a secondary payment method for us like Paypal is now. Both Authorize.net and Paypal do not have issues like Google Checkout does.

I'm pretty sure there are some that use Google Checkout here on the forum, I've just had bad experiences with them. Everyone has to put up with the 2 second rule from Google Checkout. I believe Google expects everybody's server to be as large and fast as theirs. The problem is Google Checkout contacts your site, which then contacts the shipping company and if it is more than 2 seconds, well, you can see what happens. Again, CS-Cart did a work around where there would at least be something charged on shipping, but it would be a generic price that you would set.

I wanted to use Google Checkout (Google Wallet) as another payment option on a Multi Vendor website but I'm going to have to pass due to these issues. I am getting $0 on the shipping when it goes to Google. The Vendors on the site have items that could sell for $1 up to several thousands of dollars and the buyers could also buy 1 product or multiple products. Every order is different so we can not just enter 1 default shipping price to cover all shipping. The vendors will get burned on shipping cost for every other order. For these reasons we are going to have to turn off the Google Checkout and to be honest with you, I'm not happy about it.
