PHP accelerator anyone?

Has anyone or is anyone currently using a PHP accelerator with CS-Cart?

I am getting a lot of complaints about the site being to slow and hanging with the AJAX loading sign…

My host provides the option of eAccelerator 0.9.3. Does anyone know anything more about this or any other accelerator?

Does it make a significant improvement?

Thank you!

Are you using shared hosting? How many accounts are on the box?

I’m on a VPS by WestHost.com and there’s only one domain in the account. I have the option to install eAccelerator if I want. But I do not know if it may have a negative effect or if anyone tested this before…

I have not. whats your url? pm me if you want to keep private.

Have you checkout APC? It’s better than eAccelerator, it’s free, and is supported by PHP.

ET, you have the post count of the devil. I don’t know if I should trust you with my info… LOL. J/K…

I have to run out at the moment, but I will PM you with all of that. I appreciate your help mate.

eAccelerator is a good caching system and can inprove both speed and server bandwidth in many cases however, there can be complications that your host and yourself should be aware of…

Trying it wouldn’t hurt as long as they are willing to remove it again should there be a problem.

Many PHP scripts can and do have problems with caching systems including but not limited to, some types with encoded source such as; Zend, ioncube, source guardian, source cop, phplockit and codelock. Scripts that have thier own internal caching system (such as CS-Cart) can also run into problems with system-wide caching in place.

Your host might also want to consider that, combining accelerators like Zend Optimizer and Eaccelerator for instance can also be a problem on occassion but can usually be resolved by fine tuning and a little patience.

I won’t run system wide caching on my servers because of headaches involved with various client scripts so haven’t tested the performance with cs-cart. The thought of ‘double caching’ brings allot of potential problems to mind. You may run into some problems with editing files then immediately noticing changes you have made. Cs-Cart allows you to clear it’s cache as needed but then there is still the system cache in place that you won’t have access to.

eAccelerator is a spinoff of mmcache and I do know for a fact that, mmcache used to kill vbulletin forums once the cache filled to a certain point. That has probably been corrected by now but I added it as an example of what your host might expect.

HAHA nice catch, didnt even see that!
