Testimonials Page

Is there a way to have a page which lists testimonials from buyers?

Not a block in a sidebar, but an actual page which lists the testimonials?

Hi Chris, if you create a block with the filling “testimonials” then view the block it will have a “more” link, the link to this page will list all the testimonials, you can then copy this link and create a direct link to this page, for example the link should be:

/index.php?dispatch=discussion.view&thread_id=6

Then using the “SEO Rules” here:

admin.php?dispatch=seo_rules.manage

You can add “discussion.view” to display something like “testimonials.html”

Let us know if this works - Sno

Awesome, thanks.

My only problem is with the SEO Rules. I might not have set it up correctly. I have:

Name: discussion.view

Replace with: testimonial.html

and it gives me a 404 error.

Not sure how to fix it. I tried using the whole url instead of just discussion.view and that did not work either.

Any ideas?

ok your right, it looks like the discussions addon is not seo compatible and this is very sad on CS’s part, especially when this is version 2.1.3. This is a very fine example of CS not fixing the most basic issues with the cart and instead wasting time on stuff like multi-vendor version that only like 5 people have and other useless features. CS, it’s time to fix the basics before adding more addons that are only half right and never fixed and “working as designed”…lol. Just for the record it took like 2+ years to finally convince CS to seo the news functionality so let’s hope it doesn’t take this long to realize the discussions functionality is not seo- Sno

Bug posted, everyone should respond to the bug report post to let CS know that this is important to them:

Thanks SNO. What would we do without you on the boards? You are a true asset to ca cart.

Many of us have been begging for just 1 stable release with bug fixes and completed functionality with no other uselss additions like drag-n-drop products to cart. We just want something that’s stable and commercially viable.

But then we’ve been begging for this for 2 years or more now… Kinda feels like we’re yelling into a deep dark hole… Or up at the ivory tower.

Dear BrightFire,

It would be better if the seo-rules were set in the following way:

Name: testimonial.html

Replace with: discussion.view

We have rechecked this problem and made sure that if the seo-rules are set in this way, everything will work correctly.

Dear snorocket,

Could you specify what problem do you mean by “discussions addon not seo compatible”?

Kind Regards.

Ok here is what I did and it has SEO options as well. I made a page called “Reviews”. There you can enter a description, page title, meta desc, meta keywords etc… then skip the blocks tab and in the Add-ons tab you can choose your SEO name and enable communication and Rating! . Then on the next tab called “comments” you can delete or disapprove comments. I tossed the testimonials in the can after this whole SEO bug so why not just use reviews? works perfect! Same format as testimonials…

Hello,

The suggested “Reviews Page” method for a Testimonials Page does help solve this, but I have concern about a few things.

Apart from the fact that the testimonials Add-on does not work at all in 3 instances of cart v2.1.4 … awaiting response from the help-desk. (only the testimonials function is faulty)

  1. The “Reviews Page” method still wont fix my issue above in that I cant setup a Testimonials Block that I want to display in the side-box…

  2. There is no way that I can see to hide the Reviews/Comments Input boxes under the Reviews Tab for Guest Visitors. My tests show that if a Guest-user (not signed in) submits a review, it is just ignored, not showing up in admin side, with no indication to the user that they need to be signed in!

    This is odd behavior indeed… it would be better to only show the review boxes once a user signs in, showing just a “Write a Review” or “Review this product” button for guest visitors. This button takes them to the sign-in/register page, then, once signed in back to the review tab of previous page they were viewing? Am I missing something here?

    Only Registered users that are signed in can write a review (as it should be) so why are guest visitors shown the “New post” submission section?

    I have changed the “new_post” Language variable to read “New post - You must be signed in …” but still dont see the point f cluttering the page with the input boxes if the customer isnt signed in…

    This will be extremely important functionality to our site when we start offering a Promotion to customers that submit reviews.

I need some help with this, I have made an seo rule as above. This is what i get [/testimonials.html?thread_id=18], how do I also remove the [?thread_id=18] from the url?

Dear KleriK, don`t know why,but i still have this problem under 3.0.6 ,please help ,thank you

Wasted two hrs trying to do it through .htaccess, didn’t work. SEO addon screws it.

I mean with htaccess I cannot simply rewrite testimonials.html to index.php?dispatch=discussion.view&thread_id=6

I used this htaccess line at top

RewriteRule testimonials\.html index.php?dispatch=discussion.view&thread_id=645 [L,QSA]
```<br />
I debugged and found out that SEO addon redirects this redirect !!<br />
Couldn't find any other easy way and have lost interest.<br />
Will carry on with my clumsy testimonial url <img src="upload://n4syhXZrRhsStKvmS4jT3Mp2S3k.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":(">
