Release Candidate of the CS-Cart Professional edition v2.1.3

Dear friends,

We are glad to introduce the Release Candidate of CS-Cart 2.1.3 Professional, which is available for download from here.

Here is the list of the main changes and improvements:

  1. Shipping has been revamped completely

Main description of the improved shipping functionality (http://forum.cs-cart.com/showpost.php?p=105489&postcount=1)

There’s been added a new field “Address type” with the values “Resedential” and “Commerical” (http://forum.cs-cart.com/showpost.php?p=106449&postcount=38)
  2. Amazon Checkout payment module https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/index.htm
  3. Optimized product selection

Here are some characteristics of 2.1.3 as compared to the previous version 2.1.2 (demo data was used):
  • Number of mysql queries on the home page reduced from 363 to 136.
  • Number of mysql queries on the category page (id=139) reduced from 317 to 166.
  • Number of mysql queries on the product page (id=817) reduced from 110 to 87.
  • Search request execution time for the word “adidas” reduced from 0.0753 to 0.0342 seconds.
  1. Improved upgrade script. We added event logging and improved the process of working with files.
  2. New skin template “Jewerly” was added
  3. Notifications’ style was improved.
  4. Payment21 payment module was added.
  5. Paytrace payment module was added

Warning: Please do not use this version for live stores.

Looks like a great job. Thanks for adding in the Residential/Commercial functionality. Have one question…

While reducing the number of queries is almost always a good thing, the really important thing is the total time to query the database. I can many times reduce the number of queries, but sometimes that increases the overall time versus using several quieries. This is because if they are not stored procedures, the queries must be compiled each time and sometimes the compilation, joins and total execution time exceeds the time to do the same functionality with multiple, but simpler queries.

Can you advise what the page load time was reduced to for the home page, category page and product page?

where is jewerly, i couldnt find it in rc release?

For Jewerly, goto var → skins_repository → jewerly and modify manifest.ini.

Change “Basic skin” to “Jewerly”

That will make it appear.

Cheers

Thank you for the information. We’ve updated the Release Candidate package.

error again while installing:

ERROR occurred while coping the files! Please check if the var/skins_repository/jewelry/admin directory exists, has read permissions and the skins root directory has write permissions

I doubt you would have an admin area under Jewelry.

Thank you for the information. We’ve updated the Release Candidate package.

Is there any particular reason the ability to specify quantity/inventory in product combinations has been removed?

way to go 2tl, please release this, i try this version and its all good

On the contrary, please don’t release it until you know it’s good. Many of us prefer to wait until something is solid. When it’s rushed, there are problems.

Agree on one hand, however, if the RC feedback given has dried up and the bugs have been attended to, I don’t understand why they would hold it up for sake of making it look like they are making it solid?

As I understand it, it is ready for release shortly in the coming week anyways. So it must be pretty much ready I guess.

Don’t forget to load up a customer_screenshot.png into the Jewelry Skin please.

Maybe everyone is holding off for hoping others are gonna test it due to the nightmare a lot of people had with 2.1,and 2.1.2.

How many downloads have there been?

JOhn

I guess what I’m emphasizing is that their internal testing should be improved, not rushed and the product fully regression tested for previous bug fixes and issues. I would hope the QA team does NOT rely on developers to test their solutions as a final determination.

For something of the complexity of this cart, (from my professional experience) I would think it would take 30+ days to fully regression test the final candidate. This means loading a variety of customer sites and fully testing the product in many configurations and nationalities (including installs and upgrades for each). It is a HUGE undertaking to do it right. But the support staff and the customers benefit for this prudence.

This is a commercial “product” and should be treated as such.

Also, when you look at the bug tracker you have several post a day for new bugs or things that should be investigated. I think once the bug tracker dries up, then you will most likely see a stable version in conjunction to what tony has mentioned. I think Cs is finally going at this in a professional way. This in my opinion is what will set Cs-cart above all other carts in the future. Oh, and don’t forget the forum…one of the best in the market.

We’ve scheduled to release the final version next week. Now our QA team is testing the software and the upgrades.
