How do you advertise your site?

I want to know how many of you with your online stores live out there advertised for your site when you first started and what method proved to be the most effective.

Additionally you may mention how many sales per day in average you receive using your method.

So what is it? Pay-Per-Click? Newspaper? Google? Friends? Newsletter? Flyers?

Currently our store is 2 weeks old and we have had 5 orders in 2 days. The only way I advertise is via SEO and nothing else. Currently conversion rate is like 1 customer out of 122 UNIQUE visitors. (1:122)

SEO is the bomb! (and the best marketing method)

I will combined it with Adwords and offline marketing once the website is 100% complete. We have not even had time to add all products.

For anyone who has not enabled SEO module and optimized your store, you are missing out big time on sales!

Edit: Correction conversion rate

when i first started i advertised with google. it worked fine, then i found this program, soft gsite crawler that uploads to google , so i stopped advertising with them and i still am getting many orders. so right now i am not spending any $$.

Zyles,

Is the SEO module the same found under ADMINISTRATION>>SETTINGS>> Froogle / Google base?

Or is it another program, service or module?

P.S: Can I have a link to your site?

Google ads to kick start the traffic and now, 6 months in and about £1k turnover later, using Blazingtraffic.com. Plus all the usual stuff - regular uploads to Froogle, new site map each week and regular front page copy changes. I now have over 1,000 pages indexed and usually generate about 10 sales per week

No Froogle and Google base are product comparison services and a “shopping search engine”. It’s worth using if your traffic is english and you sell either to US or UK.

However I don’t, so I have no experience with it.

Hey thanks for sharing that with us. Do you have available what your conversion rate with direct advertising is?

How many sales do you get from the visits originating from Google? What is your budget for your campaigns?

I just want to understand better what method of marketing works best and it can be helpful to other member who want to succeed with their online store.

Unfortunately my stats arnt that specific and i havent figured out how to add Google Analytics to my CS Cart template. I can tell you that our turnover was around £160 per month before we signed up to Adwords. Its now on average £240 per month although over the last month we have taken £408.29. While you might think thats not a great turnover you need to understand that our templates start from only £5.99 although our complete packages (hosting, setup and templates) are considerably more expensive

As far as our Adwords budget go, we just use the default which is currently only 4pence.

Jesse

I see lots of discussions around google base and SEO but I am wondering how they work. I have just finished my shop. I have SEO enabled and can see its effect on the browser. For example for childrens books I see: http://www.banglaclick.com/children-c152.html

I have also signed up for Google base FTP account and configured the Google/Froggle module with my userid and password but when I run Google Base Export in the Export/Import of cS-cart admin, it runs and shows me following message: “…Copying file to the froogle/google server…”…and then nothing happens. On the status bar I see “Done”. I have also submitted my url to Google couple of days before and added my site to several forums as well. But I just don’t know why google doesn’t return anything if I type in www.banglaclick.com or simply banglaclick or few of mywords which I have in my site as a product.

Am I missing out any step ?

I will be very glad to get some step by step help. I did not find any documentation on using Google Base.

Thanks and I apologize for my inability to understand and long post.

i’d like some help with this too

Does anybody have experience with Trellian SEO Toolkit?

A guy recommended I give it a try - but at 299/495, I’m hesitant to drop the dime before getting some second opinions. Anyone used it? Is it helpful?

I wouldn’t spend your money on it…There are free tools out there to accomplish the same thing. Try poking around the SEO forums and you’ll find plenty. Don’t be fooled that any piece of software is really going improve your SEO. That product really just has features to tell you how you’re doing, but isn’t going to take away the workload. No magic to SEO (well unless it’s SPAM magic), just work & time.

Like bholland states. No tool will help you do better SEO (unless it’s spam scripts).

The tools available are just for analysis to give you statistics and be helpful in different ways. Sure it aids to keep track of rankings etc, and is very trivial, but it’s nothing ESSENTIAL and will NOT give you knowledge on how to obtain better rankings.

I’d say get a tool like this when you know how to SEO and have a lot to keep track of.

Free certainly sounds much better to me!

Where are these SEO forums you speak of? I looked at the aforementioned SEOBook.com, and am going to get the book - just didn’t see any forums. Did a google search but that just seemed to lead to spamlike directory sites.
