I have 100’s of categories and my inventory levels change frequently, I’d like to be able to hide empty categories on my site. Any ideas on how to do this?
no answer, i’m interesting by this
I might not be understanding, but you should be able to go to manage categories, expand to the category you want hidden and mark it as hidden, until of course you have more inventory, then you would mark it as active.
Let me know if that’s not what you meant…

I think they are talking about a programmatic way where a category displays if there are products and does not display if their are not, which would reduce the amount of product management. I would be interested in knowing if this is possible as well, this would be a great feature to have.

ADMINISTRATION TAB > SETTINGS > Scroll down to Catalog > Last checkbox uncheck where it says “Show out of stock products”
- Hide empty categories
- Hide categories in which there are products, but their number is less than or equal to zero.
- Hide categories in which there are only hidden products
- Hide categories in which there are only unavailable items
This plugin is more interesting in terms of functionality, but does not work "on the fly" because it checks the statuses of each product and makes records in the database, so to check the status of 100,000 to 500,000 products will significantly reduce the speed of page loading. His chips to me for nothing on this his code, I did not "lick" and therefore do not spread here, but if there are wishes I can "finish it."
