How AWESOME does this website make you feel?

Hi All,

I would appreciate any reviews that you may have of my website: http://www.barnlightelectric.com (Not 100% complete, but live)

Negative and Positive are both extremely welcome as I’m sure you’d want to say something!

Skin was designed in-house with programming provided by Tony Kowalick (ETInteractive)

Jesse.

Nice design Jesse, good work. Just the ‘Powered by’ link point to CS-Cart… is that ok?

I would dis-color the wood planks a bit, they are way too saturated.

Footer may need a bit design added to it, too bleak.

Search box is too big.

Reason #11 is missing coma: sorry, Florida

I like it, clean, fast and the wood effect looks fine to me.I love the image pop up it is sleek.

John

I personally do not like that you lose the left toolbar on the inner pages. This causes too many clicks for a customer to view other categories and products.

But he can solve this problem when he use an horizontal menu. I build our own shop at this time too. And i will like to use the same. But with an horizontal menu and with an go back button. I like this variant, because the product impress the customer more with very bug pictures.

But back to the roots

The background is an horror for me

It looks great - clean and professional - the design should definitely inspire customer confidence.

Also, I really like how the hover accordion menus on the left side for categories is very stable and user-friendly - all too often hover menus are overly sensitive and make it difficult for customers to navigate with them properly. @JesseLeeStringer - did you you a pre-built mod for these or is it something that you coded yourself?

Overall, I really like the clean, uncluttered design. You’re not overwhelming customers with too many items on the home page while still providing ample links to anywhere he or she might want to navigate on the page. In my humble opinion, the UI is great - kudos!

I keep forgetting that CS-Cart ninja that link in, thanks for the pickup [Changed]

The wood is quite striking isn’t it, I think I could drop it by 25% to make it worthwhile to other users

The image popup is from via magicthumb, total cost to me including additional development was <~200 USD

I understand what you mean however reviewing how our customers viewed the website (50% designers) they like “new and exciting” over standard formats. The additional edge of having more space to run things with make it far easier to manage (Product Pages especially)

Looks like we’re getting a consensus; background needs to be modified?

Horizontal menu is out; I considered it but we have way too many categories to have the load horizontally; infact all out original designs were vertical :frowning:

The Left Navigation is the standard cs-cart emenu category layout, we have modded some elements of it but nothing that would change the speed o things,

I suppose we took a little bit of previous development and ripped it up

Our “old site”: http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=barnlightelectric.com&d=4841935774221824&mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&w=f1b85f1,23302af8

vs the current obviously.

Overall I’m happy, there are more items to come but I’m slowly working through with it :stuck_out_tongue:

You might want to check your left toolbar in IE7. It doesn’t behave that well.

In IE8 it is OK.

Thanks for the pickup, although it’s not a solution to the problem, but we have very small occurrences of IE7 users :D. On the “to-do” list

Just a quick thought!

I would try a gray weathered wood as the background rather than the redwood, should blend in much nicer to your overall theme rather than clashing.

I agree with Struck as barns are usually weathered wood rather than nicely varnished timber (well, they are in Oz anyway). If you are going to leave the varnished timber look, maybe add a drop shadow.

The site looks really nice and clean. I don’t like losing the side category menu and I would like it to be a bit more obvious how to get home when I am looking at a product.

Also, your “bot-wrap” div sticks out to the right slightly when viewing the product details.

And when I go to sign up to your newsletter, I get the error message “You have not selected a mailing list” but I can’t find any mailing lists to select from.

Otherwise, it looks fantastic and I love the image pop-up.

I’ll try to get “corporate” to approve a change in bg image, I agree but I’m not the graphics dudette.

Thanks for the feedback Lyn, I’ll run through the newsletter items now, seems as though the bottom wrapper renders differently on different browsers :frowning:

Wouldn’t it be nice if all browsers worked the same. It does it in Firefox 3.6.3 and also IE8 and it only happens on the product details page.

it’s a background image problem. It will be fixed today.

Thanks for the bug find!

Dead links on

I didn’t read all the posts here so maybe this was mentioned. In Firefox 3.5.9 the right side “Need Help” tab goes behind the footer section that contains the “Why Buy From Us?”, “About”, “Customer Service”, etc links.

I haven’t upgraded to the newest firefox on this machine for testing purposes. Didn’t test it in any other version.

Thanks, I was messing with the SEO addon today, blew up a few PC’s, should be working now.

I’ll have to check that, may have been a CSS issue at one point (Tony / I & 2 others were editing) of ninja-save-fu

If you could check again it would be appreciated.

A very good site one of the very best CS cart sites that I have seen.

Clean design, easy to move around and looks good.

Notes:

I did not understand why when it says click to enlarge it does not enlarge it just shows the same image over to the right

Also I love your logo on the front page I see Florida in the trees and i see the barn light - just a thought perhaps in the bottom right you could include a barn image now it seems like wasted space.

Overall a really well-done website it looks like you put some time into it.

Congratulations!
