Cart is good idea to have images…certainly for carts who supply personalised items as this means it is a double check in the cart for the customer to see his logo etc before paying.

I’m talking about cart status section. See the attachment below.
http://www.barnlightelectric.com/discount-lighting/warehouse-lighting-1/14-warehouse-stem-mount-pendantThe product page should allow the ability to embed a certain image size (aka thumbnail) that is independent of the thumbnails used for categories/carts
It would allow larger on-page images while preserving the ability to use smaller/larger images on the category pages. (ie, Add a 500px x 500px as a thumbnail presently and the category-view thumbnails will be the same images, but displayed and compressed.) This would reduce page load time dramatically

Can we have image sizes defined on categories? Some categories deserve higher res images than others. It would be cool if the sizes would not be global but category based.
Regarding my question #1 (Should the original images uploaded for the product be resized? Or we just need to create additional images with proper sizes?)
For example, we uploaded 2 images for the product (thumbnail and detailed image). So, we’ll have the following images:
2 basic images
1 resized thumbnail for the product details page
1 resized detailed image for the product details page
1 resized thumbnail for the product listing page
1 resized thumbnail for the cart page
Totally, 6 images for the product (2 basic and 4 auto-generated). Is it suitable?

1 detailed popup image is uploaded 700px.
from this I need 2 images created first product details image 300px second product image in category (thumb) 100px
100px image can be minimized (width set to smaller) to 50px and shown as additional images in product details page.
Ability to set size in admin settings (for example to change from 100px to 120px) and option to regenerate size (from detailed original image 700px) would be very handy.
And the last question - how to resize images (by vertical/horizontal/longest/etc… side? Now we resize all images to the same size (width and height) to make them look nicely in the gallery ([url]Instant Demo - CS-Cart Multi-Vendor Demo Try Free for 15 days, small thumbnails below main image). Your suggestions?

I think all pictures in this page are just too tiny. What else when a picture are we selling here? Customer must get best visual possible then comes description.

I think the best way is to calculate the scaling factor based on the long dimension and then scale proportionally. Any other approach results in possible distortion of the image.
If you want to get fancy, you could allow specification of a “matte” size and overlay the image onto that background retaining the proper scaled image size.
