More SEO from your cart

Just found another way to have a better SEO.

Most thumbs that are shown all over pages are a great source to get a better SEO.

Thing is, all the thumbs have a prefix like “thumbnail” which does describe what it is but not really is an addition to the SEO.

My proposal is for you personally to rename that prefix to some major keywords that you are after.

example of generic thumnail:

thumbnail_25_25_8274_uc7236d_thumb12738775034bedd3ff9c056.jpg

example of how SEO optimized it can be:

The change can be made in function fn_generate_thumbnail. Empty your image/thumbnail directory later on.

If you are really into SEO, rename the thumbnail directory to something like “notebooks_best_price” with changes in proper config files (so cs-cart would know its new name)

Why the change? The thumbs are ALL OVER html code in cs-cart. Much, much more often than the original sized images. Thus, it gives you a chance to drastically increase the major keywords density per page.

If you change images and/or thumbnail directory, you have to go to config.php and change values at the top and at the bottom of the file. Make sure you change all of them, some do repeat.

Thus, before it was:

/images/thumbnails/thumbnail_25_25_8274_uc7236d_thumb12738775034bedd3ff9c056.jpg

now

One single page can have 10-60 of these guys helping you get a better SEO score on the keywords that are important to you within 10 min.

too much seo is spamming?

I think is too big even for the search engines to store.

Otherwise i totally agree with TexasGuy. I have seen great seo ranking results based on img src. Specially in google images search.

I have never seen “too much” and “seo” together before. Where did you learn this concept?

I think what he means is when search engines see too many of the same keywords on one page (keyword density), it can be considered search spam and can actually hurt your rankings. If it’s bad enough, google will knock your site down or possibly remove some pages from their index.

This mainly applies to paragraphs and text on the page. Spreading them out in alt tags, page titles, page content and urls is definitely a good idea.

JesseLeeStringer> once gave me some tips that I used and I am more then happy with result.

Why would you think that google bot is stupid? And everywhere it turns you want to throw keyword at it. In my case out of large product description page bot managed to read out only actual product description and add put it in as meta description below link to my product found in

google>site:www.domain.com

If bot finds site to be old, informative, good interesting unique content, impressions not only shown clicked but also time spent so probably keywords are simply ignored.

It will in the next 6 months. Bet all you want.

Well, let us just say that all this information is highly speculative since google is very closed about its algorithms. What you are saying are just some “rules” that people thought they observed… or just a rumor.

Do you know what is google’s threshold on keyword spamming? No. No one knows. So, let us not dwell over the imprecise information.

They’re closed about their algorithms, but very open about their guidelines:

“Keyword stuffing” refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site’s ranking in Google’s search results. Filling pages with keywords results in a negative user experience, and can harm your site’s ranking.

I’ve also been told basically this same thing directly from 2 different google engineers. There’s a lot of good general, common sense information in their webmaster guidelines… http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?&answer=35769

There’s a LOT to SEO, and this is just one aspect, but as a rule I try to not overdo it with the same keywords and terms on one page. That being said, I think your thumbnail alt tags mod is a good idea.

What cheebs quoted is correct, furthermore I watch trends more than most people. You are free to choose/do as you want of course

Getting more visitors from google image search with this mod.

This is a great idea and one I want to use. However, I am confused a bit by where the thumbnail pictures are. When I import an image, called for example “my_product.jpg” as both the thumbnail and popup larger image, the thumbnail picture gets put into the images/product directory as “my_product.jpg” and the larger image gets put into images/detailed as “my_product.jpg”. In the generated code, I can see this:

And my images/thumbnails directory contains nothing. Where are seeing the image get renamed to “thumbnail…” and where is it being put?

Thanks

We’re you talking about Google Instant when you wrote this post? I’ve been reading a lot about Instant’s affect on Keyword SEO and how keywords are not nearly as important as they once were since Instant displays results based on what it thinks you are looking for.

For example say you create an adword campaign using “Blue Coffee Cups” or you simply target those keywords on your site for organic searches. Now type in Blue Coffee into Instant and the results do not show “Cups” as a match, nor does it suggest it either. So your campaign isn’t going to amount to many sales.

This has got the SEO bloggers buzzing and I don’t know if anyone quite knows what to do about it yet.
